The annual British Sporting Rifle Club Chamois Shoot will take place on Sunday 28th August on Short Siberia from 08:30hrs to 16:30hrs and along with my fellow Range Officers and helpers we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there.
The competition is shot at 200 yards and for those not already familiar with the event the target is a DJV Chamois (see below). The course of fire is 5 rounds prone, using only a small knapsack as a front rest, followed by 5 rounds sitting supported only by a single stick; the single stick must be long enough to be used in the standing position. Rifles must comply with BSRC Class B rules 1 and regulations, as well as NRA range regulations, if you want to be eligible to win the Stein that is awarded to the BSRC member with the highest score, however, ‘sub-calibre’ entries are permitted for ‘score only’. Use of an ‘HME’ rifle 2 is not permitted and muzzle brakes are prohibited. Copper only bullets are prohibited.
Alongside the Chamois we also hold a modified Sitting Fox shoot, the target is the DJV Fox (see below) and the course of fire is 5 rounds sitting in 90 seconds followed by a further 5 rounds standing in 90 seconds, in both positions competitors must use double sticks. This competition can be shot with any rifle that complies with BSRC Class B 1 or Open Class rules and regulations and with NRA range regulations. A Stein will be awarded to the BSRC member with the highest score on the day. Use of an ‘HME’ rifle 2 is not permitted and muzzle brakes are prohibited.
In addition to being open to all BSRC members, including probationers, the shoot is also open to the following:
- NRA members provided that they can produce the following on the range prior to entry being accepted:
- A current NRA membership card in their name; and,
- A current safe shooter certification card in their name for scope sighted rifle.
- Members of any club affiliated to the BSRC provided that they produce the following on the range prior to entry being accepted:
- A current membership card in their name for an affiliated club; and,
- A current safe shooter certification card in their name for scope sighted rifle.
- Any shooter not falling into any of the above categories provided that they can produce the following on the range prior to entry being accepted:
- A current personal Firearms Certificate in their name with an appropriate condition allowing the use of the rifle(s) they plan to use on ranges;
- Proof of current valid individual shooting insurance in their name; and,
- A current safe shooter certification card in their name for scope sighted rifle.
Entry fee will be £10 payable on the day and will be on a first come first served basis, re-entries will be accepted for an additional fee of £5.00 per shoot (either Chamois or Fox) and provided that they do not take priority over first entry for any other competitor.
There will be no facility to zero rifles on the day; any shooter not hitting the target area with their first two shots will not be allowed to complete the series.

Lastly, it should be noted this is a friendly and relaxed shoot and there will be plenty of people on hand to assist and provide help and encouragement.
