Browning 525 or Silver Pigeon

I had a Browning B525 grade one for over 10 years. It was used on driven and walked up days, wildfowling and for simulated game. It never let me down and was probably serviced twice in that time. I now have a Beretta Silver Pigeon 3, it's a good gun but I'd rather have my old 525.

I am possibly in the market for a brand new over and under.

I was pretty set on the Browning 525 game gun as it seems to just look that little bit better than the silver pigeon.

I have never owned a browning so i started doing a bit of research and have come across issiues with the browning rusting and firing pin issues. I am a little off put by this. Then i started looking at the silver pigeon and they seem to have their own share of problems ejecting etc.

I would value any one who owns or has owned either to share your thoughts and views, good or bad.

Thanks
They handle very differently so worth having a go (if you can) with both.

In terms of robustness and general reliability, it’s a win for brownings hands down.

The company I work for has dozens and dozens of hire guns and the brownings and mirokus very rarely go wrong, if ever. The silver pigeons are forever rattling fore ends loose, trigger issues, ejector issues, issues with wood swelling when extremely hot or extremely wet, the list goes on.

For moderate personal use I’m sure you’d have very little trouble, but the above is just an honest account of my experiences with both.

Hope this helps.

Both great choices, go to a gun shop and see which fits best. The Browning will have a deeper action than the Beretta so one will come up to your eyeline better than the other. Both are good quality guns. Also consider Miroku, they are probably better quality and less money than the Browning, but more or less identical, given Miroku make most Browning models these days apart from the very expensive Herstall made ones.

I have thought about it a bit more. I took my over and under out the other day. It felt like a plank - but I used to shoot very well with it.

I have been shooting a lot more with a good side by side and just love the way they move and handle. Perhaps an over and under is a little more efficient, but a good side by side … well you either understand or you do not.
Yep and then there is the 20 bore………
Utterly magnificent!
