BSA Viscount

I am a bit of a BSA fan, and have a Viscount in 243 as well as a couple others. Now I have run across another Viscount in 7x57 for sale .... looks to be lightly used and in very good shape, but I would not have an opportunity to actuall y handle it before purchasing. Any comments on the rarity/desirability of that rifle chambered in the classic 7x57 would be appreciated. Very tempting to me at a price of around 750 Canadian ... somewhere over 450 British pounds by my rough figuring.

So ... not really encouraging me to make a purchase so far! Could be I will be thanking folks for helping me hold onto my money.

In the UK it'd be, at that price a good THREE TIMES what even on a good day it'd make at auction.
Have you been sipping that brandy again? I can't understand what you are saying there, is it a riddle? Is there a clue in the THREE TIMES?
Do I need to read a portion backwards or up side down?

🤣😁

UK prices don't translate to Canadian prices . 750 CDN is a reasonable price for a BSA in decent shape , it's not a great deal , but it's within reason . Personally , I'd go 650 , it depends how much you want the rifle .

In NZ, good examples of the controlled round feed BSA's (especially the BSA Hunter) have fetched prices of around £1k if in exceptional condition.

Shame these rifles are not appreciated in their country of origin, the 'bush legends' in the colonies treasured them!

If we could add rifles like we add shotguns , this would be a gem and an expensive one at that ! However we cannot , certainly would not pay that considering i have had the chance of far better for far less and turned them down . Though i am talking pure use and practicality not a bit about collecting nice things

I suggest you buy it - these rifles are well made, with decent triggers and have hand lapped cut rifled barrels. I have one in 7x57 that was made in 1955 and it is a gem to handle and shoot. This is a group I shot recently at 300yds at Bisley.

Seller started out significantly higher a few weeks ago. If the rifle was offered at $650ca and the price included the 19mm rings, I'd be in, but at $750 plus shipping, and the rings being expressly excluded, I remain hesitant. However ... it would pair nicely with the .243, and be a sweet addition to the small collection of BSAs in the lock boxes. No real use or practicality for the 7x57, though to use Bowland blades words, it presents an opportunity to "collect nice things", and of course another set of dies, trim dies, brass, etc.
Thanks for your thoughts gentlemen!

Indeed. One of my favorite rifles is a '65 Husqvarna 1640 in .308. Stutzen stock too. Worth little here in the UK, but highly desirable elsewhere in the world, so I believe. Think I paid around £300 for it

I paid £400 for a stainless Remington Model 7 KS 7mm08, a custom shop job with a McMillan stock.

Had a few wee problems that needed sorting (like sourcing a good trigger, picatinny rail and a bolt that would give safe headspace...) but once that was done, superb shooter!

Stock alone was worth £500+!
