Budget rifles ..uk pants pulled down?

Yes we get our pants pulled down with everything not just shooting equipment. In Canada 1995 the price of a Ford Escort was 35% less than I had paid for one here in England.Today it’s just think of a figure charge it and see if the silly sods will pay it.

A quick search for pricing including VAT on 3 very different rifles in UK, Germany and Denmark:

Begara B14 HMR: UK - £1400. D -1835€ Equals £1515. DK 13000 DKR Equals £1435.

Tikka T3 lite stain: UK £1150. D – 1550€ Equals £1280. DK 11700 DKR Equals £1295.

Savage Axis II: UK £500. D – 710€ equals £585. DK 6000 DKR Equals £660.

Just the first prices I found when making quick Google search for price.

Don’t know about prices for firearms in US, but compared to EU your firearms in UK are little bit cheaper than here.

But then again remember prices for everything has gone up since 2022. A lite of milk here in Denmark has gone up about 100% since then, but I know you have been hit by the same in UK.

I asked MDT US if they’d ship to my hotel and they told me credit card address had to match shipping address unfortunately. They do ship to the UK but it’s via Canada. The prices soon add up.

I did manage to pick up an MDT stock from Bass Pro Store in Canada and brought it back - had to go through oversized luggage and the officer nearly had a meltdown (gun shaped…). Airline came over and said all good. Worth it, the price was considerably less then what you’d pay for one here.

It’s always been this way, I’ve been buying stuff from the US since the late 90’s. Shooting is not a cheap hobby here but there are ways and means of grabbing the odd bargain.

As to the OP, in short yes, i believe we are, but not just in the UK, in Denmark, Sweden and Germany too, and i suspect even more european countries than those, once one really starts to look into it.
And it's not just guns, but fire arms related things in general, is my impression.

I'm currently getting my reloading kit together, and the price difference between the same products in the states and then here (in my case Denmark, Sweden and Germany) is quite eye catching indeed. A possible higher VAT on gun related products in the european countries mentioned is likely a major factor, i agree, but can that explain all of it?
Because the prices in the states is often about 75 or so percent of what they are here. :-|

Weirdly enough the canadian prices also seem fairly high vs the US. I was expecting a US neighbour with a vast forrested area and, i assume, quite a few hunters and gun owners to have had a price level on rifle and reloading related products acloser to the states, but no.

But I thought no one but the evil US used tariffs on foreign made goods? Hmmmm.... 🤔

But seriously, due to manufacturers being located in the US, consumers here can scarf up deals on the cheap. That "$99 Barrel" for example, was probably a Green Mountain barrel blank. They make a majority of factory rifle barrels for the industry, and sell their overruns for about that (you can google their website and see what they have). Nosler's corporate headquarters, you can go visit and buy blem bullets for substantially lower costs (sometimes as much as 95% lower) than what is packaged and shipped to distributors (and they also give an additional 10% off to veterans).

And yes, MDT products are legit. They don't trip my trigger, but they are widely used in PRS/NRL matches. They make some very good magazines as well.

It was Europe who gave Trump the idea of tariffs in the first place having insisted on having tariff levels four times higher than the US on imported cars. A particularly stupid policy given the relative quality and usefulness.

Far more importantly, how are the prices of a crate of Grøn Tuborg! 🍻

Grøn Tuborg is expensive: about 11 DKR a litre when bought in crates of 30, 0,33L bottels, thats £1,22 a litre in real money.
I prefer to drink our local brew: Green Royal Pilsner, thats 7,60 DKR a litre or £0,85 in real money.

Can also say the price is about £0,43 a pint, when using a real measurement for Beer;)

I do not complain about our prices on Beer.

Is my old local Vestfyens Pilsner from Assens still alive and brewing? Grew up on that as a 12 year old picking up bottles from the roadside to exchange them for pant and buy some for me and my friends 😂 those were the good old days when your grab you bike and spend the day heading out and your parents didn’t care what you did for hours!

Ahh, them days…

Haha, those were indeed the days. I dont think I've seen one of the local Fyn pilsners over here in CPH for years tbh, but they might very well still be up and running and quite gettable around Assens and on Fyn 👍🙂

But @bobo is right, we Danes might have reason to complain about the prices on guns and reloading equipment, but not so much regarding the price of beer in the supermarkets ;-D🇩🇰

Getting those same beers on a night out in town over here , makes reloading seem cheap however 😬😆

No , our prices are considerably higher . Our government imposes import taxes on all firearms and ammunition , American and European . They're equal opportunity gougers .
