Buying branded items on ebay warning

Folks just a gentle warning regarding eBay.

I have recently bought a very well know brand of card game on Ebay, all the photos were of the genuine branded item as well as the description. What came in the post however was a clear counterfeit and poorly made at that. Reported it to Ebay right away and promptly send it back to sender who strangely had a Chinese name...

Secondly bought a well known perfume for a christmas present however alarm bells started ringing soon after that it was too good to be true, thankfully I got it cancelled before it was dispatched.

Moral of the story buy from a trusted retailer (not Ebay, amazon, shein, temu) even if it costs a couple of quid more. The older I get the more wisdom I see in buy once, cry once.

Someone advertising DNT Zulus somewhere for £350!
Sound too good to be true.
So you know what to do.

80% of eBay seems to be of Chinese origin these days, says it’s a U.K. seller but clearly isn’t, increasingly find the same on Amazon. You have to be so switched on these days not to get caught out

Facebook marketplace is the worst I lost £100 trying to buy a nonexistent trailer
How out of interest? I treat fb as a face to face only site when it comes to using marketplace, never send money on it, on one occasion I convinced someone to post me something and pay remotely but I got them to list said item on Vinted to give us both a bit of reassurance and security.

ebay is full of shite, if your going to buy, make sure you use paypal. iv had to send stuff back and iv never had a problem using paypal becayse if the seller wont refund you or ignores you, paypal refund you then get it back from them, you be surprised at the things they will fake, things costing only a couple of quid, best avoid

Oh so I was away and the guy said pick it up or leave a deposit and get it next week. Then of course many messages later he would not let me collect it and removed it from marketplace so fb won’t take it further. I also paid via PayPal friends and family so no come back there.

A third party vendor sold me some fake youmove on Amizon, first I knew was when Amazon gave me a refund and then shut them down.

Scammers have always been about.

Once bitten, twice shy. I lost a couple of hundred pounds in a similar way. My wife had been looking at air jackets and had been chatting to someone on marketplace about them. Apparently this person had one for sale and would let my wife have it for a 'really good price'. I took her word, and paid PayPal friends and family for it, and of course it didn't exist.

I was really made at myself as I don't usually fall for crap like that. Couldn't do a thing about it though. It still makes me angry to think about it, but it was a hard lesson learned.

Plus 1 for Paypal.........I bought a catering pack of Nosler bullets from a continental dealer some time before the brexit fiasco, and only 500 arrived.
The dealer wriggled and suggested that I was trying to rob him, so I called Paypal. (I actually had an 0800 phone number to their customer service......sadly no longer available AFAIK)
The balance of my order arrived 5 days later.

With all of these sites it is the usual thing - If it sounds too good to be true then it often is!
I only buy from E-Bay if the seller has at least 99.5% positive feedback, and even then I have a look at their neutral and negative feedback records! As for Facebook Marketplace I avoid unless the item is local enough for me to check it out first, but to be fair I have had some pretty good deals that way!
