How are people finding the pulsar IR? Is it fine out to say 200 yards?

Sounds like they are topping the pards and wraiths then which is good to hear.

I looked through a c50 in the daylight and was impressed by how crisp the image was. I find it all depends on the persons eyes though as I looked through a wraith side by side with my pard 008 and I thought the pard was way better (the wraiths screen seemed tiny and grainy to my eyes) yet my mate thought the wraith was better!

Mates just bought one and expected the IR that’s with it to be good enough ,wrong .Very good pic in daylight but yet to use with a real IR .

I have just taken delivery of the Ludicrous Lumens Wraith (850nm, 2x Yukon lens) and found that with the two lens adjusted out to full extent they will illuminate the full screen and still provide more than enough illumination for long range when the Yukon lens is adjusted to spot. I also have a 940nm version on the way to test.

Yes, they're a big lump. On top of your rifle weight add an ASE moderator, Harris bipod, Sirius IR, adjustable mount, LE032 range finder and start going to the gym :lol:
 
I use one of these on my C50. Not as bright as a BSDE/ Solaris etc but good for 200-300 yards.
The good bits:
it’s light weight and compact
It fills the FOV (I have an o ring on mine so it goes from 3.5x FOV to spot and back again without over flooding.
Only one power setting so mo fiddling with it
Cheap as chips.

The C50 is no Drone image wise but it has nice fine reticles and better true NV performance. The Drone was 7 or 8 times the price of a Photon; yes it’s 7 or 8 times better too. The Photon gives a reasonable image with a doubler but it’s not as good as the Drone and looses out on FOV too. The best bit about the Drone is once it’s set up, it’s just a case of switch it on and shoot - no twiddling and fiddling.

Well after much cynicism from myself in the original C50 thread I’m more than happy to hold my hands up and say how good the C50 is after buying one. That bloody thread gave me the itch and I normally avoid them!!
Thanks to the fellas I emailed for advice, you know who you are:tiphat:
Ive been using Pard 008’s for all of my shooting since they landed here over 3 years ago, from rats to foxing and had none of the reported issues, having 3 of them sitting on rifles and being out 3 nights a week. My comments were based on the online footage from the C50 which did come up short compared to the 008.
I put it on the HMR for starters just to set up and use on the rabbits to get used to the settings etc.
The reticles are far superior, nice and fine, they don’t increase in thickness when zooming which helps with accuracy, I had no problems head shooting rabbits at 80yds the other night on x3.5 even though I’m used to the x6.5 of the Pard,
Theres far more adjustability, screen brightness, contrast, ret brightness/colour
Side by side with the 008 the Pard nicks it in the daytime but unless you have them both at hand you’d barely know, nighttime is different, the C50 definitely has more legs, a better foxing tool that leaves the 008 behind at 200yds, I wouldn’t say the clarity is massively better but everything just seems more “visible” it’s hard to explain but it’s definitely a nicer experience which instills confidence.
The twilight mode isnt a gimmick, works very well and once the light does go you can still see stuff with no ir for a while.
Ive tried an Excalibur laser but I prefer a good old standard T38, cleaner image and fills the full screen.
Shot a fox last night but to be fair a could have poked its eye out it wasthat close!
So far very happy and looking to offload a Pard!!

great info to read especially as I sold my Pard and am now looking to change to a C50 - the pard will take some beating though!

What experience are you casting that opinion on Bruce?
The "I am an expert, and even looking at a scope I can tell it's rubbish" opinion?
Come on, tell the good folks on here how your experience of the Wraith stretches no longer than a dark rainy afternoon in your own garage.
To be honest, what you have said could be true that the C50 is a better unit at a good chunk more cash than a Wraith, but are you going to shoot any more foxes with it?
The Wraith had the twilight sorted 2 yrs before the C50.
Come on Bruce, stop whackin on something you know little about.🤣
 
A dark rainy afternoon spent with the Wraith and an afternoon spent with the C50 is more than enough to know that the C50 is a better product all round.
The Pulsar is better built, has a better battery, records sound, has better colour and far, far better eye display

The big plus for the Wraith 4K is the retention of detail during daylight hours when using digital magnification, it was better than the ATN, Pard, Pulsar and Wulf in this aspect..

Other than that , the reticule's are hideous, the tiny eye display the worst I have used, ergonomics a 6 year old must of thought it out... let's put a weaver rail on the left that prevents most of the population being able to focus it with IR illuminator fitted.... WTF .

Night time unless totally bombed with IR light from a VCSEL it is nowhere near a C50 , the C50 is a true digital night vision scope which retains the covert ability of being able to gather a lot of ambient light without artificial means of high power lasers, but regardless it can take that also, as the exposure control is much improved, add to that the fact the software and overall build is much better and the lower price and it's a no brainer...

If members of this forum that want a NV scope and participate in stalking also require a digi scope, the C50 is the one, wide FOV and superb full colour low light performance that will send the most expensive Swarovski scopes packing in this respect, when dusk turns to night...
 
Just received my C50 (thank you Grampian Guns @remmy700)

My basic review after having a Pard 008LRF (which was excellent I might add!)

First impressions - one shot zero is excellent and actually better than the pard system as the adjustment via the rotating turret is far faster and easier to see - a nice touch that they rotated the X 45° as it makes lining the reticle up much easier at 100 yards.

If I was being picky my eyes struggled to get the focus clear enough to see the smaller shoot N C type orange bull, but just lining up with the middle of the circle was fine to get cloverleaf type groups with the HMR at 100 yards.

The menu functions are great with a short press to enter and long presses to exit, very easy to use.

After zeroing I patiently waited for dusk and there was still some fading light - I found the night colour setting ok but not super clear.

I then switched onto the IR black and white setting and it was amazing - to my eyes it even put the pard to shame, which is high praise as I really liked my pard. I have several videos shooting rabbits out to 175 yards and the view is very clear. The mil-dot type reticle is very good and just above the second mil dot lines up well at 175 yards with my HMR.

One of the best features is the convenience of the 3 buttons they mounted on the ocular (on/off and switch between colour and black and white, magnification toggle and record video) all very well placed and easy to use even in the dark.

The Pulsar supplied IR was fine for me - I found I was seeing very well up to and probably just past 250 yards. A better button for on off may be good but it’s not a major complaint.

The main whinge if I had to come up with one is the weight - when I picked up the box I asked Colin if he had put a couple of bricks in it!! When I opened up the packaging there are cases and extra cables etc so I though “ah, that’s what it is”….it isn’t - it’s a heavy lump for a scope although when on a short 17 HMR the total weight is probably not far off a centrefire with mod and high mag scope so not a huge deal.

The battery housing caps feel well made and everything seems very high quality and well put together. Not sure about where the night/day mode switch is located as I found myself accidentally changing it when looking through the scope trying to adjust the focus but time will tell and I don’t see it being a major issue.

The eye cup is another area where this blows the pard out of the water - I lost no less that 3 on the pard - it was a bad design, even after gluing one on.

Overall after the initial test run I am very impressed and think it was worth the little bit more expense over the pard 008 LRF.

Worth noting that the Obj end is pretty large (I think it’s around 62mm) so be careful which mounts you go for if you fit one.
