Calling a muntjac with a buttolo

Muntjac calling try watching this.
When you master it, there’s different calls for does and bucks. I managed to get a buck within 5 yards during a summer morning but other times of the year they don’t even blink (open field).
My friend in his woodland whilst walking / stalking is very successful to get the bucks to bark and be curious of another buck in his area and be able to quickly cull a lot of muntjac. Keep watching videos and most importantly practice practice practice. Try different times of day, different calls and different times of year and don’t give up. Let us know how you get on.

I have two Buttalo’s they sound the same to my ear but one works the other doesn’t ever!
I have equal success with Bucks and Does.
50percent of those I see completely ignore it.
I try to make the sound as quiet and long as the bulb will allow.
I’m no expert.

I have a friend who uses a Buttalo Reed call and he's like the Pied Piper with it. I spent an hour with him just before Christmas in the middle of the day and we shot 6. Some were shot at under 5 yards. To see a muntjac sprint in, the instant he blows the call is incredible. I have tried to mimic the sound he makes but I haven't managed to yet.

Could you please ask him to record it and please make the recording available on here or to Best Fox Call Iotec caller, we could all do with it.

I was out a few days ago had a nice muntjac buck in front of me at about 150 yards and wanted to shoot it in the head or neck. So gave it a call with the Buttalo call and it just looked in my Direction but didn't come in it just started barking at me. I had the cherry wood in my pocket so thought I would give that a go. I couldn't believe it's reaction as it runs straight in and produce the shot I required.

So a very high pitch tone then?
Some say to have the screw backed out so the tone is the lowest the cherry wood call does.

So some say high pitch, others low pitch and others "sounds like a quack". And they all work. As the Americans say "Go figure"

When I set the tone of my call I played about with it until I was happy with how it sounded.
I was trying to get it to sounded like what a doe would sounded like if it was being harassed by a buck or a fawn in distress. The story above was the first time I have used this call I normally use the Buttalo call with good results. But I did shoot another muntjac buck on that day called in with the cherry wood call three blows of the call and a younger buck came steaming in. So two muntjac bucks called in on two attempts with the cherry wood call yes it could be beginners luck.
Everyday is a learning day muntjac are by far my favourite deer. Coming into deer stalking from doing a lot of fox shooting I find the pleasure of being able to call a fox or a deer in is the thing that I enjoy the most.

Likewise Terrier1, new to muntjac after much fox work. The early morning stalk is what I enjoy. Not had any luck with any call so far. Either low, high or duck like. Will persist with it. They are a wily quarry that is for certain.

Try three calls with the Buttalo call in time with your breathing then wait give it two minutes and then have a good look around with the thermal sometimes you will hear them running in over the leaves and repeat have a good look around before moving position as on many occasion one has come in unseen.

And behind, you, they are crafty individuals like fox.
