Car leasing

Eventually - as cars become electric - i think many of them will be just like a mobile phone contract
All the same - swap at 3/4/5 years old

The thing is I just don't have a cash lump to go buy any sort of car even something shït that's only reason thinking of it.

That's the crux of it, unless it's a business expense then it's just to be able to keep up with the Jones', champagne tastes on Lambrini money😂
It's not even that tbh. Will only be getting the cheapest we can afford. She's not brand snob - just wants a car that's not full of sheep shït

Even if you had the cash why would bother buying something that depreciates. Assume you had £50k knocking about and wanted a £50k motor you could probably lease it over three years for <20k and have the remaining 30 as free cash flow to do with what you wanted invest or spend it’s your call. No point buying or leasing if it strangles your cash flow.

What sort of monthly expense do you want to fork out?

A girl at work just got a good deal for around £280 a month on a Fiat 500, depends what you want.

The way Ive always looked at it is, if you're going to pay interest then instead of £500 a month on car rent, I'd rather get the £6k loan, £500 a month, buy a car, pay it iff in a year and keep the motor.

You don’t have to spend much at all to get a half decent runner.
Over the last 20 years of driving I’ve never wanted a new car. Always bought old crappy cars because that’s what I like and what I can afford and in Cornwall, it’s going to get ****ed up in no time unless you keep it on A roads and round the town centre. As soon as you meet a tractor and trailer coming down the lane at 40mph and you have to tuck yourself into a Cornish hedge for him to get past, you’ve had it!
My last car purchase was 5yrs ago, cost £800, had 12 months MOT, was mint inside, went through 2 further consecutive MOT’s with no work whatsoever needed. Lasted until a couple of months ago. That’s cost me £160 a year plus a few hundred for minor repairs here and there.
I just spent £1500 on a “new” car so hoping to get another 5yrs out of that one!

Unfortunately, APR and Interest rates are crap at the minute.

If you're card savvy, then getting a car on an interest free credit card, then get a 0% balance transfer to a new card at the end of the original deal.

A few friends have new beamers etc on tick.
One is £750 a month....£9000 a year!!

They can keep them, I'll keep my 2014 plate on 88k that I've had for about 6 years and paid £12k cash for.
This is pretty much the same as me.
I've been driving an 06 Nissan xtrail for the last five years. Its done 170,000 miles , and I paid £1,400 for it ( thats a lot of money by my new car standards). Its gone through its mot again today , and I'll drive it until its completely had it.
I worked in the motor trade for around 15 years . I now have no interest in cars whatsoever ( just as long as it starts every day).

Post crash (2010 - 2020) was awesome, manufacturers long of cars and almost 0% interest, late 2012 we leased a Merc c220 AMG trim shooting break and c250 coupe same trim (awful car though) for just over £500 pcm COMBINED which was crazy not too!

Covid hitting supply chain thus prices going up and now ’real world’ interest rates make leasing insanely expensive, although with the shift towards a trans global war and inevitable financial catastrophe there might be some good deals in 2025, unless of course we are all dead…

Yep, a good time to get them, same as mortages.

What was up with the C250 coupe, I always liked those, although I did have my eye on a E350 V6 Diesel Coupe?

Also fancied a C220 or C250 estate.

Irritating rattle than main dealer couldn’t/wouldn’t fix, very vague steering with super stiff suspension coupled with Pzero ‘lites’ gave rise to a few brown streaks on the upholstery after icy mornings, boringly fuel efficient was about it.. The shooting break was great, extra stiffness of the coupe just made it dead to drive.

I‘m not old enough to drive an E class (or Volvo, Jag etc), 35 years to go!

I quite like the E350, not in white though as I dont have Turkish teeth, fake tan or watch Love Island.

Each to there own, looks like something my Dad would drive (in ten years when he’s old enough, currently only 75)

Pre Covid wife leased a mini diesel via work for LG and was £190 per month all in including a decent personal millage allowance, tax, servicing, insurance and tyres etc so sold her car as was a no brainier. 3 years later same deal was well over £500 for basic petrol hybrid shite so bought another car and claim per mile now.
