Car winch

Hi everyone!
I hope I'm posting this in the correct section, since a winch come into action with a dead animal...

Ok, so I mainly hunt fallow and red deer in central Italy. Red deer males can easily reach 270+ kg.....

Since I don't own a pickup truck but a Jeep Cherokee I'm wondering if any of you has ideas or has done anything to install a winch inside the veichel to pull the carcass onboard.

Thank you very very much

Arrivederci from Milan

Better could you not put the winch in the jeep then pull into trailer as you know they are big and long so you will run out of length inside the jeep. A trailer is lower also ramps to make shallow angle.
Long or SWB Jeep? It is quite an ask as a fabricator looking as a job is much easier than a few lines on a page.
Depends if you dont mind drilling holes in the Jeep floor to get a good fixing also running cables back to the battery

Thanks!

Problem is I don't have a pickup truck 😭

I loaded a 240kg stag last winter but with the help of a tractor. The carcass was lifted at same height of the trunk and we just pushed it forward ...4 guys!

So far I got an idea but I have to find a way to get a strong pulling point just after the front seats...

Not easy!

Agree with Colin - trailer with fold down ramp / tailgate and winch mounted to forward bulkhead - trailer cover to protect carcass from toad debris : etc

Easiest solution

Mounting a winch internally could be done but your vehicle will quickly smell like an slaughterhouse if you transport in the cabin ,,,,,

Got an idea...will make a drawing tomorrow!
Looking forward to get some opinions
96kg empty cost £20.00 GBP
All these questions have been asked before about getting big dead deer in a small space.

Unless you take the back seats out and have a decent way of keeping the blood from going all over the inside of the Jeep it will stink the vehicle out in a matter of days.

Block and Tackles don't work very well "side ways" they will work but best when vertical or on a medium angle.
You will need a ramp wide enough so the deer does not roll off, if you leave the head when winching that will be a PAIN.
Andy @deerstalker.308 has big Reds and uses a pick up/trailer with a frame winch in his pickup.
I do it my way using this £20.00 home made hoist to clean them out then lift them in a container the back out the chiller to game-dealer.
Also a small chiller but they go in.
Better to use a trailer with 2-1 Boat winch on a snatch block, wash it out no stinky Jeep!

Trailer would definitely be the best option indeed, though I've made a "basin" with a 3x4 meters thick nylon cloth.
It is made with the same nylon that is used to cover truck trailers. Indestructible! It has rings on the perimeter that allow to close it up with a rope like a bag. No blood no stink. Already loaded over 10 deer.

Back seats down of course.

There must be a way! 🤣

Good luck just put the "basin" in the trailer as you won't get your quoted 270kg deer in the back lol.
If you do I will eat a Pizza and I don't like them lol

Loaded a 240 in February 🤣

I hate trailers.... It will slow me down to 110km/h in the highway 🤣

Come by and I'll make you change your mind about pizza...! 😉

Honestly I would use a trailer.
I used a car like you for 2 years.

The smells and insects in the car soon wear thin.
You have to deal with the deer and then deal with the car afterwards, especially if you have family and use the car for family duties.

Enjoy the drive on the 1 day you use the trailer. I'm sure you can slow down for 1 day mate.

That and it is so easy to add a winch to a trailer.

I would happily come and give you a hand loading and I am intrigued to help solve the issue. You will need a ramp, winch, anchor point, and deer sledge. I imagine a better option is to buy a second hand pick up and put a winch in the back or get a trailer, but that is less fun. I have had Red, Roe, Fallow and Muntjac in my car over the years.
