Carbon Ring? in .22lr

Hi,

Forgive the bad quality photo! but can anyone confirm what is shown is a "Carbon Ring"? and if so best way to remove or if I even need to worry!.. Just got the rifle and cleaned it twice with CLP, brush and patches, no issues with accuracy from what I can tell.
Not sure if related but have found Blazer brass seems to get a bit stuck sometimes (maybe case slight longer/wider and getting stuck in carbon ring?) and needs a few attempts to eject, no issues at all with SK..

No issues with accuracy = nothing to worry about.
I've never heard of anyone cleaning a .22lr before....

You can get, yes, a carbon ring if the casing is shorter than the chamber especially if using greased bulleted cartridges. Use a phosphor bronze brush to clean the chamber mouth and leed as you might use the same to clean the leeds on a shotgun.

From what I can see that merely looks like the chamber itself

I don't clean my .22. It just gets a boresnake through it occasionally

Makes me laugh this new saying " carbon ring". It's just good old honest fouling.

At target shooting events you are allowed a fouling shot, soon it'll morph into a carbon ringing shot FFS.

Nothing wrong with that chamber, blazer is cheap ammo and your rifle doesn't like it. That's 22's for you.
Try other ammo.

Most issues arise with fouling from using shorts in a classic .22LR chamber, which will cause a small build up and sometimes require cleaning to avoid tight chambering of a standard length round. And not

I have experienced extraction problems also, using CCI standard ammunition in my CZ American despite giving the chamber a very determined scrubbing with the bronze brush. I splurged out on RWS 50s not only did the extraction difficulty disappear but my results on target were much improved also. The old adage that you get what you pay for!

@CreedSnore you do not say what rifle you were using or what type of action, if it was new or secondhand. Sometimes new rifles have a gunky grease preservative in the bore which needs to be removed .

P.s like the photo on your name tag looks a wonderful place to be never mind shoot!

Fair enough, I was only asking ! likely it is just the start of the lands. Just new to me and testing various makes of ammo.

Hope try some better SK and `Eley soon! it is bolt action Sako and S/H but in great nick and well looked after by previous owner who really nows his stuff.
it is a lovely place but sadly just somewhere I go a few times a year, currently just sub 12ftlb air rifle shooting...

I have given the bolt a good clean but it was not showing much signs of muck, hopefully it was just the Blazer ammo. Wil lfind out when I test some more at the weekend....

I thought the same, to the naked eye, but dismantled the bolt, gave the claws a soak in brake cleaner and a scrub with a toothbrush. Dried, lubricated and reassembled and no issues since . Seem to recall I gave the slots on the action where the claws fit a good clean with a toothpick.

I was having issues with CC1 subs, but Norma subs were fine?!

All above said, if you're not happy/ confident in doing it, chuck it in the direction of your local gunsmith for a once over.
