Carcass Selling

I completed my DSC1 recently and learnt that I can't actually sell a gralloched carcass to anyone as DSC1 no longer grants a trained hunter number/status. This is because in theory we don't have the necessary training to identify any infectious diseases when completing the gralloch. My question is that if I tag a deer un gralloched and find a nearby game dealer that would accept it would I then be able to sell a whole ungralloched carcass. Obviously within the hour of shooting it (depending on the ambient temperature).

Be far easier to just get yourself booked on the requisite course and get the ticket surely? I know my gamedealers would have something to say if I brought them a whole deer guts and all. Assuming they even entertain the notion, you’ll also be expecting them to dispose of the gralloch, which will come at a cost I’m sure.

Nothing wrong with asking questions right?
This should all have been explicitly covered on your DSC1 and if necessary, checked by reading the regulations readily available on the DEFRA website:

Any carcases taken to or picked up by an Approved Game Handling Establishment (AGHE) must have had an initial examination by a trained person.”

Perfect thanks for the link

I plan to as soon as possible, was just curious about the theory of it

I believe you can take a gralloched carcass with the pluck in a bag for them to check ( pretty sure they was mentioned on my dsc1). Not sure most game dealers would welcome that though

In addition to the large game meat and hygiene training and examination, anyone taking a carcass to game dealer, gralloched or not, should also be registered with the council as Food processing business.

Is this the case also for own consumption?

Just take the course or take no payment ! But a beast must be gralloched and bled within a short period of time . You can of course give it away which seems odd , likely you could still be sued if someone became sick from it ? The cash you should receive from a dealer for one beast isn't really worthwhile

No, you can't just give it away.
Whether money changes hands or not, it is still "transfer to a third party", and, except under a few circumstances, this requires trained hunter status and registration as a food business.

What you are proposing would theoretically be OK, so it's not a silly question.
However, you're unlikely to find a game dealer who'll play ball with you on that one. There's not exactly a shortage of deer, so why should they bother with yours?
You should just do the LGMH test as a standalone qualification, and you'll be sorted then.

There are other examples of a carcass going to a game dealer which are not cleaned out with Hares being one of them.
An estate/farm will trim up a good number then put them in the chiller to take the next day.

I have seen 60/70 in a keepers pick up at a Game Dealers being unloaded.

Also on a big estate with a number of high seats and a few people in them for a set time say AM 6-9 then they are picked up also with the deer.
