Case cleaning with Coke!!

I've recently read that one of the best ways to clean cases is to soak them for a while in coca cola and then rinse them!
Has anyone tried this?
I imagine it would clean them well but what would it do to the metal structure?

It's pretty acidic. I used to soak dug-up firearms in a vat of Coke to eat the rust off. Should work fine if not overdone.~Muir

Hi MS,

We used to use coke to clean coins when we were kids and it worked a treat!

I also remember putting a tooth in beaker of coke during a school science lesson many years ago. We left it for a day or so and returned to find the tooth fairly well dissolved............. so should do the job on brass.

I use cheap rolla cola in my ultrasonic cleaner it seams to help clean out the primer pockets a little better than useing citric acid or vinegar in water just a bit.

It taste a bit funny though after it has being used in the ultra sonic :-P:-Plol.

Maybe some Vodka in it would help with the de-greasing too!??
Probably have to try a few glasses first to make sure the mix is just right!

MS As Finear said, it contains phosphoric acid. I cautioned against people using Brasso sometime ago as it can caust cracking of the case. I feel that Coke would do the same.
