Chainsaw helmets - recommendations

Following up on the recent threads re boots, does anyone have any recommendations for chainsaw helmets? I'm a very occasional user (2-4 times per year) and am looking for a replacement helmet as the right ear muff keeps falling off the helmet that I currently have.
Thanks

I use a regular Husqvarna helmet , my last one after about three years suffered the ear muff falling off thing , so about £40 replaced it .

Outback you've probably had your money's worth out of it after 3 years of regular use anyway so I wouldn't be too concerned. I'm not sure but I think they have a recommended life of something like 3-5 years. From what I can remember and it's a few years since I last did a chainsaw course, they should be marked with a pictogram inside the helmet indicating when it must be replaced by. Something to look out for when buying.

+1 on the above, get one from a shop with a decent turnover so there is still a reasonable life left on it.

If you're able, try and get to a dealer who sells a few different ones and try them on. You might find you like/dislike one for some reason or another. Stihl and Husqvarna ones are expensive, so if you're going to splash on one or the other you don't want to regret your choice.
If you don't want to go down the pricey route for occasional use, JSP from Screwfix are reasonably priced and well made. Just not very fancy.

Sounds like you use one about the same amount as me, I got a set of pants gloves an helmet "complete with visor and muffs" for around 80 quid off ebay. nothing flash but perfectly serviceable for odd time use.

It's still good for 3yrs from issue...but you have to record the issue date should that become of interest at a later point in time
Yes, but you don't know anything about how something has been stored if it has been in stock a long time.

If you're ever near Perth, I have an old but serviceable husky one you can have, gratis. Pm me if any interest, Dave

My employers stuck rigidly to the marked dates with no latitude whatsoever having been served with two improvement notices from the HSE when under a previous regime.

What I use, expensive but very good and comfortable to wear all day but the ear defenders are not chipper rated

Again - a Husky or Stihl will suit your needs but which one is personal choice. You’ll get a Husqvarna Classic for around £30 pretty much anywhere but I definately prefer the Technical Forest.and find it a better/more comfortable fit. They’re more expensive but you can find them for about £65 if you shop around. The additional comfort far outweighs the extra outlay IMHO and makes a big difference over a long day cutting.

Helmet life depends on your use. For a private occasional user you can arguably just go ‘on condition’ for helmet life although exceeding the manufacturers maximum recommendation would be at your own risk. If using in a professional/commercial environment it’s a different kettle of fish under PPE regs - typically 10 year shelf life but 3 year ‘in use’.

We are issued husqvarna helmets at work replaced every 3 years, over the years I've tried most makes and styles and keep going back to the husqvarna ones.
The ear muff hygiene kit is cheap enough that we replace them every 6 months.

Husky basic model is all you should need, its still comfortable enough to wear all day I think. 👍
I wear mine all day on occasion and it's fine. The sprung ear muff design works really well and the visor has very good visibility. Local lawn mower shop sells them for £30. best helmets for the money in my view.
Avoid Screwfix Oregon. Horrible foam headband that soaks up sweat and stays cold and soaking wet all day, the visor is dingy and it rusts and the ear muffs fall off.
