Cheap .243

Good morning lads/ladies
I’ve not shot fallow/roe for a few years now only really shooting muntjac and foxes. So I took .243 off my ticket.
Now there’s a chance of getting permission on some land with fallow and roe
( I just need to confirm a few things and walk the ground)
So I’d need a .243 again to be legal, but I have next to no budget while renovating a house.
The less money I could spend the better really.
I’ve been a savage 1100 with scope and mod for £300
And parkerhale or bsa cf2, are they enough to do a job? Or am I wasting my time?

Cheers

All good rifles mate. My local shop has plenty bargains in 243.
Phone Duncan and tell him Nathan told you.

I got a cz601 for £200 about 20 years ago with the view to upgrading it when I had the dish. Still got it and it’s shot hundreds of deer and fox. There must be loads of similar deals available. Many are not screw cut so either look for one that is or factor this into the cost

Of course they're enough to do the job.
Definitely the way to go if you're on a tight budget. Probably more deer been shot with those two makes than all the rest put together.
That’s re assuring then, like I say I’m not fussy what it is. If I works then that’s fine by me.
Thank you

I just want to walk the land first, and get my variation in.
I’ve heard it few time about how many deer/foxes/rabbits are on some land but 90 percent of it isn’t shoot able lol

What is the cost of getting it screw cut?

I would have the P.H. lovely classic rifle, if you are within striking distance of Sussex give Sam at Rakers a call, I was in there 3 years ago and he had a sleeper P.H. I bet its still there.

I bought a Parker-Hale .243 for my first rifle, and liked it so much that my second rifle (.270) is another one exactly the same!
The most expensive of the two was £170
They work just as well as any other make of rifle.
My .243 was already screwcut when I got it, but the 270 still has open sights in situ and I couldn't bring myself to spoil the look of it by getting it cut.

Yeah that’s fair enough, I don’t think the mods make a huge difference to what you’re shooting at anyway.
I’ll go and have a look at one as there’s a very cheap parkerhale near by under £100 all be it no scope or mod.
I got a 22 Brno mod 5 for £75 a while ago from that shop so I’m hoping the cheap Trend continues

Screw cut & proofed with the proofing part being discussed on here a number of times.
Other things to consider, in the colder months a deer will keep a day or two but come a summer roe then one shot in the morning will be turning quite quickly.
A .243 doesn't kick much so a set of head phones shoot 1 deer and chop it up is about the cheapest option
PH no mod scope and headphones (add mod to your fac request)

I literally gave a parker hale .243 away on here a few months ago, it was my first CF and with Winchester factory ammunition shot groups between 0.25 and 0.5 inches. I got rid of it because I was having a really lovely Tikka M590 rebarreled into 6x47 with the idea that became my go to rifle, while waiting for that I also acquired a parker hale .30-06, with homeloads that is now shooting similarly small groups, so far unmatched by a semi custom 6x47 tikka, making it a more difficult choice every time I go to the cabinet.
I would 100% recommend a parker hale, pillar bed it, bed the action and try some different ammunition, mine hated all federal for example. Chances are it'll shoot pretty well as long as it hasn't been horrendously abused and even then it has half a chance.

I’ve already got some head phones ( electronic type ) for pigeon shooting. So that’s one cost saved 👍

There’s a very cheap one I’ve found not too far away.
I’ll pop my variation in and give it a try I think then.
Thanks for the advice

If it is a shop you buy from just add in to your questions ("does is group ok? what ammo was used in it?) and have you any of it?
Yeah good point, I’ll have a look next week and see what he says. I’ll just have to hope the variation come back quick ish and not in 6 months time

Try Andy at Melbourne gun he’s always got something within your budget
He’s my go to dealer I’m only 4 miles away from him.
Cheap. .243s do come up I’ve just acquired a tikka T3 in .243 from someone giving up its embarrassing the price I got it for good luck 🤞

That’s where I usually go Steve, fantastic shop. I took my lad in with me last time ( he’s 5 ) and Andy gave him yildiz orange baseball cap, he still wear it now
Just been looking online I’ll pop in next week
