Leather and cheap are poor bedfellows; bridle butt will last in excess of 50 years, shoulder or split hide (cheaper) will stretch or break within ten.

Ready for another fifty years. One stud, one buckle, two hand stitched keepers and a few holes; butt leather, no buts. Same for the hand-stitched shapes holding the solid brass D rings; why risk the contents of the slip with something inferior?
