Chester Jefferies shooting gloves

I am thinking about buying myself a late Christmas present -a pair of shooting gloves that really fits. I hear Chester Jeffries is well spoken of and I see that they will make a glove up to fit your individual hand measurements. This sounds ideal as I think my palm is a little longer than most and I find gloves that are otherwise the right size are a little too short in the palm for me, gloves that fit my palm are sloppy otherwise.

My problem is choice -they offer two main types of shooting glove that look appropriate for stalking and there is no retailer near me where I could go to try both types out, so I am wondering if anyone on here has experience with either type of glove. They offer an all leather glove, in a water repellent leather that is silk lined -such as "the gamesman" and they offer a glove that is unlined leather on the palm and sheepskin sued on the back -"the moorland". Which to choose?

My concerns are that a glove made of two different thicknesses of material might feel ungainly or peculiar and might stretch more over time in the thin leather side. On the other hand an all leather glove in water repellent leather with an elasticated cuff might be very sweaty as it might not breathe well. Does anyone have one or both of these gloves and have any thoughts to offer on my ponderings? or even on which glove is better for which circumstances and which seasons they are wearable in? I resume the half sheepskin glove is overall warmer than the silk lined one?

Thanks in advance.

Silvius,
While I haven’t had either of the glove types you mentioned I have purchased a pair of their Lammie style shooting gloves and a pair of their fingerless gloves and can’t recommend them highly enough. I even managed to lose one of the Lammie gloves and they replaced it for a mimimal fee. Their gloves are top quality and have lasted very well. Try giving them a call as I’m sure they will be able to guide you to make the best choice of glove.
Good luck, Willie

So...... I see that you wear a pair of Willie warmers, lucky Man!!, it could only happen in the North East area of England

You'll not be disappointed with the quality of their gloves. Properly made, out of quality materials. Great choice of colours, and to your spec. A worthwhile investment IMO, worth every penny, and therefore also worth looking after.

I bought myself a pair of the silk lined ones a couple of years back, used down to -25 when skiing in Austria and sub zero in the field in Scotland. Our family business dealt with them for years, primarily because their products represented (and still do now, as then) excellent value, long after the cost is forgotten. Best of British!

I agree - very well made of excellent materials. I have a silk-lined pair also, and would certainly buy again when necessary.

Thank you for the advice gents. It sounds like the silk lined ones will be warm enough for me then.
I am a lowland stalker and I find the coldest I get is sitting still in a high seat when there is an icy wind.
Its cold but not as cold as being on a high hill in an icy wind. I remember that from mountaineering on days when one should have stayed home.

I've had a pair of the silk lined ones for years and never wear anything else. Absolutely brilliant even in -12 in Hungary. Worth every penny.

Done it ordered them now. After much deliberation I chose drab olive, not my favourite colour but since they have examples on the web site of their gloves in drab olive or brown it looked like one or the other was generally considered ideal and I thought Olive probably worked I more situations overall. Thanks Guys. I will be itching to get that packet open in a month or so when they come.
