Chiller trailer

Good morning,
Is anyone using a chiller trailer as a larder and also using it to tow with carcass in it ?
I’m interested in the practical aspects and how it works ??
Many thanks
Tom

It will be quite a "high" load with them swinging in a trailer, yes the game dealers have lots in but they are using trucks/vans not at the end of your vehicle.
If you did decide to use one I would be tempted to have the load even and strap them to either side so they didn't have much room to swing

My daughter is. (@Mouse on here).
Not sure if she's towed it fully loaded yet though.
We have discussed ways to prevent the carcasses swinging about and potentially destabilising the trailer when on the move.

I am of the same opinion as The above. I’ve seen a trailer collapse from loads moving. I would be very cautious. As Tim said they need to be prevented from moving. Unless it’s supported and strengthened properly it will either tip over or collapse.

Any pictures of the chiller trailer larder? Would like to build a good larder but as we are tenants here, trailer mounted on in some sort of container would be more convenient if we ever left.

The dealers in Scotland have a workaround for that, it’s called “piling them up on top of each other until you hit the ceiling”.

Are you talking about something that you'd be towing regularly, for example to transport carcasses to an AGHE, or something that you'd park up for the duration, use for all your larder and butchery requirements, and only move if you have to vacate the premises?

If it's the former, then any one of a number of commercially available refrigerated trailers with hanging rails would suit your purpose (which is what my daughter is using).
If it's the latter, then you'd be looking at something like what I've got:

The latter. That looks perfect. If you don’t mind me asking (happy to be told to butt out!), what sort of rough cost would I be looking at to build something like that? Just trailer and chiller aspects really, ive got stainless tables/sinks.

Some chiller trailers have the potential for moveable load bars that lock into rails on each side of the chiller to prevent anything hanging moving. Theses can be augmented with tie down straps if needed

Having transported hundreds of fridge trailers containing beef - the only way to prevent load shift if to cram as many as possible in - that stops the shift (or reduces it)

This simply isn’t possible with the small fridge trailers used for deer etc

You will need to chill them hung - then put the carcasses on the floor

Otherwise the trailer will sort itself out the first time you hit a corner going a smidge too quickly

Could I just ask how the rail is fixed to the ceiling? Is it bolted through and supported by steel on the outside?

I’m looking to convert an insulated lorry body (or find someone to do so) and just want to understand how it’s attached and if there’s a magic solution.

Thanks,

Dave
