Classic caliber with a twist

This is a bit different - when one thinks of 7mm Mauser (7x57) a classic walnut stocked piece is imagined

Anyway - the client specced caliber with the additional requirement of lightweight, accuracy with modern materials

So after some discussion the following spec was settled upon ;

Borden Timberline -right bolt, oversize bolt knob, right port, Sassen stainless barrel, 8 twist, spiral fluted, finished at 24” with protective cap covering m18x1 mm thread

Triggertech diamond trigger

MDT HTN 26 Carbon folding chassis

Barrelled action ceracoated titanium grey by Liquid Steel Design

Client yet to report on accuracy but I’m “reasonably” sure it will hold its own with unerring reliability

Ronan - A couple of questions please (well 3 actually) arising from the pictures : -
1. Is there any advantage in spiral fluting as against straight fluting or vice versa?
2. If spiral fluting is preferred, should the spiral be with or against the twist of the rifling in the bore?
3. Should the twist rate of the fluting be the same as the twist rate of the rifling?

Purely aesthetic on all counts

Pretty is good

Chambering aside, what was/is your Client’s driver for such a takedown friendly specification if other than a need to carry on London Transport?

May I also assume the barrel coating was applied after install of the ‘invisible’ moderator thread cap?

I didn’t say it was invisible it’s a protective cap

Yes coating applied after proof as sometimes weapons can be damaged at proof

Lightweight and portable this certainly is

I’d be surprised if the scoped weight is more than 8 lbs

Interesting! The timberline is the intermediate length action for the x55 and x57 length cases?

Finished article wouldn't be my cup of tea but compliments on the craftsmanship. Very fine job and attention to detail.

Keep posting, your threads are some of the nost enjoyable on the site.
