Me and Mrs. JD pinched a few days away no rifle purely tourist mode, an old friend suggested the commando monument as worth a visit.
well, he was right for anybody who hasn't seen it (just outside Fort William ) try to make the time and go well worth the visit.
My grandad's Brother was a command in WW2. I was told at the time(40 years ago) that he died in the war, I will be researching his army career if possible

Wonderful and fitting memorial to those incredibly brave men to whom we owe so much.
I met a lovely small man many years ago who was looking after our local small army museum in Belfast. He was very well turned out and carried himself very well even though obviously well up in years. In conversation I discovered that he had trained commandos in Scotland during the war - a rare pleasure and an honour to meet such a man who spoke very movingly about “his boys” and their often dreadful fate.

I did a tour by motorcycle round the highlands recently, of course had to stop.

Stopped there on the way to fish the Lochy in 2017. It is a wonderful memorial, and very moving.





Earlier this year we re-visited the Arctic Convoy Memorial at Cove, in memory of all those who sailed from Loch Ewe. That is another memorial that is well worth the journey.

If you're passing Stirling it's also worth a short detour to see the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Great War Window, in the Church of the Holy Rude.

Created by the stained glass artist Christian Shaw, and dedicated in 2016, the window is quite spectacular, particularly on a bright and sunny day.

Have always stopped and prayed a little at the Commando monument every time passing, come hell or highwater. Hopefully in my dotage I may yet pass it again and dwell a while.

Old boy I used to know was in the commandos in ww2 . Saw a lot of action and came home unscathed then broke his leg at a homecoming dance and was in traction for weeks after

We visited the Commando memorial back in 2008. I remember there being a small museum near-by which had a fantastic selection of photos and memorabilia.

I've visited the memorial to scatter the ashes of a friend on behalf of his widow. He had served with the Commandos in WW2 , his last wishes included having his ashes scattered there.
Tribute to brave young men who did their best when their country needed them most.
