Compound mitre saw

I'm considering buying a new compound mitre saw. Specifically a Festool KS120. I know this is massively overkill for my amateur needs. But I'm a tool lover... Has anyone got one and willing to assure me they are as good as the reviews seem to say?

I can understand where you are coming from.

I'm a keen DIY'er and a mate of mine in the building trade put me on to Milwaukee tools several years ago. After buying an M18 drill/driver with batteries I then discovered 'body only' buys and it went on from there. Great kit and I thoroughly enjoy using everything I've acquired M18 impact wrenches have taken over from air tools for me.

Enjoy your Festool CMS, you only live once.

Cheers,

Mick

There's a joy in owning the acme of anything. That almost gives a pleasure even if the thing isn't actually in use at that very moment.

And usually over the long term the best of the best they hold their value better.

You're a long time dead and in my life I've rarely regretted selling a thing but have often (when it was at that time available) regretted NOT buying a thing.

Go on..great yourself even if only for the smile it'll bring.

Only trouble with Milwaukee is the lack of spares if it is not brushes or batteries it goes in the bin.

Milwaukee are overpriced in my opinion. Bosch, Makita or Metabo Are what I would point you to. I have the Metabo mitre saw. But my body only kit is all Makita. It was a toss up really between the Bosch and makita. In 2 years I've had 2 drills returned. I spend a LOT on tools as I have 800 odd engineers to keep unhappy.

We exclusively use Millwauke in work, it's a heavy engineering environment beyond what most sparkles or mechanics would expose their tools too. Generally Makita get smashed as they have a lack of body rubber armour. I think Milwaukee are far more heavy duty than the rest.

I don't ever buy wood working tools and I can't day the Milwaukee looks very good as it doesn't feature on any reviews. Festool it is.

Just go for it, I have had a Dewalt radial arm saw and the compound mitre saws for the last 30 years, still going strong and useful as anything, just watch the trigger finger!!!

Festool is excellent stuff but that comes at a serious cost.

Makita all the way and you would probably have £500-£600 left to spend on other tools.

Just my thought as a joiner for nearly 39 years.

You don't want to be afflicted by Swarovski'itus. ;)

When the Festool came out i was in the market for a mitre saw. They were new kids on the block, i was very impressed but decided to go for the Dewalt. I have regreted it ever since, they are more accurate than any of the rivals, their dust collecting ability is better than all of the others, Dewalt build quality is terrible in comparison.
