Cordless drill

Had my green bosch 18v cordless drill 12 years most excellent replaced a makita .
Makita only lasted 2 years.
Dewalt pooh ,work drills forever failing .
Work bit the bullet and went Milwalkee far superior but far more reliable.

Just my thoughts from working on site as a stone mason and builder
we use Milwaukee 12v &18v they get proper abuse every day inc dirt ,dust (big killer of all power tools )water and being dropped or used as a hammer 🔨 😀 we get about 8 yrs out of the power tools if they don’t get nicked first? The Milwaukee 18v battery is better when you get up above 5 amps.
My joiners use both dewalt and makita definitely not as durable in my work environment but they do work well for most jobs and a little bit cheaper.
I have about 5k in my Milwaukee tools and battery’s . Plus various makita corded drills and breakers as for a corded drill you can’t go wrong with Makita

Ps if you want to see how much more power is in a Milwaukee battery compared to a Makita get a £10 battery adapter off egay and run a Makita planner with a Milwaukee battery of the same amp !! 😊

I’ve had a few different brands over the years but without question the best drill I’ve ever had came from Aldi of all places! It was very cheap and came with two batteries which charged very quickly. I used this thing for about 7 years, on an almost daily basis, it got dropped, accidentally left outside in the rain, definitely overheated and it just kept going.

Unfortunately it finally bought the farm when I dropped it off the roof. I needed an urgent replacement so bought a Ryobi which was very cheap off Amazon, but its pretty underpowered. Having said that its taken a fair bit of abuse and still going for now.

Toolstation currently have sale on Dewalt Drills I think so may be worth a look?

Christ this has become my drill is better than your drill.
THE OP was wants a drill for a bit of diy not to build a housing estate.
Agreed, but I would sound a note of caution.

The one tool you want to be decent grade for DIY use - which encompasses everything from putting a shelf up occasionally to major refurbs through to self-build, all DIY - is your drill and driver. It gets used and abused way more than other tools, so I would suggest it's the one tool to spend your money on.

Hence me sounding a note of caution on the hammer function, which all on all but the most expensive drills is pants compared to a corded drill, and even then a night and day difference from the proper tool for the job, i.e. an SDS drill (be it corded or cordless).

Another vote for the Milwaukees. I’ve got several. Oldest is 12 years old and still going strong. Screwfix are doing a twin pack (drill and driver plus batteries/charger) for £250 at the moment. You won’t be disappointed.
