Coyote Hunting Rig

Good luck, I have made some climbs on bikes that I could not even scramble up on foot, coming down is another matter though

Neil. :)

Neil: I've already experienced some slopes that were a one-way trip. Once at the top I saw that there as no way in Hades I could get down by the same route in one piece. Tonight I got another look at that slope I want to tackle. It's going to be a real bear just to get down to the base of the canyon from the nearest road and it's a longer slope than I thought. At one place it's so steep that I'll be leaning so far forward my nose will rub the front wheel.:D As I'm sure you know, there's no real way to "practice" for that part of the ride. You just need to do it by feel as it happens.

Thanks Richard. I'm going to try to keep the hip implants in place for the duration!! :old:~Muir

Friends who ride trials bikes tell me if you can go up, you can come down again :suss:
The big problem is traction and engine braking, enough engine braking to keep the speed down, and enough traction for the engine braking to work.
I have done very steep decents, but have never liked it as much as the climb up, but there again I have never done it on a 2 wheel drive bike.

With this bike it's imperative that you accelerate down hills do to the centrifugal clutch and I have gone down some steep hills OK doing this. I have some reservation about going down hills on which I have encountered short vertical shelves on the up climb. I think if i could pull the front wheel up a bit when i hit these on the reverse trip, I might consider it, but i have yet to be able to pull the front wheel off of the ground with this bike. The thought of an "endo" on this rig bothers me enough to find an alternative method, which is usually to transverse the slope on the side slope if possible, go around if I can't. The bike does exceptionally well on side slopes.~Muir

bigger problem is getting the weight far enough back.
I have only done serious slopes on much lighter bikes, with my arse hanging over the back wheel!

Exactly. This bike only weighs 208 pounds and it's hard to get far back and still have a good grip on the throttle.~Muir

Muir,

Just got back from the pub having met Dave65 and Gurka, listening to Daves exploits Coyote hunting in US makes our fox shooting look tame. However we can go lamping anytime and we have moddys.

Must say in flat terra firma in UK a 4 wheel drive is a lot better esp this week as so windy and wet.

Happy New Year,

D

Coyote hunting can be a wild experience. We don't use mods but we can shoot at night. A full moon and a snowy land scape really show them up. Technically, we can't shoot from a "motor vehicle". Even this bike would have to be dismounted to shoot legally. In reality, nobody cares if you shoot "non game" animals from a motor vehicle. Only big game is regulated in that regard. (at least in these parts) The benefits of the bike begin with the ability to go where my Jeep or a quad, can't. Being all wheel drive, the mud and muck doesn't slow it down too much.~Muir

Richard: Last time I looked we still had plenty of room left in Montana! Some of the best native rainbow trout fishing in the US is a half mile from my house.:stir:~Muir
Whereabouts in Montana do you live Muir and when is the best time to go trout fishing, whenever me and my wife visit friends near Chicago we always do a road trip and fishing for rainbow sounds like fun to me
Geordie

I live 50 miles outside of Billings. That would be a heck of a road trip! About 1100 miles each way, I'd guess. ~Muir

I have been there twice for the fly fishing, but not hunting, hopefully that will be rectified soon.
But i will also be packing my rods as well as my rifle next time.
Best time to go, its easier to ask the worst time to go, during snow melt!
If you decide to go contact me for some more info, its superb fishing.
Cheers
