Credit where it’s due - Devon and Cornwall Police

Just received my Renewal in the post, 3 days before the expiry date. Nothing remarkable about that, except my renewal application only went in 6 weeks ago…

I moved my home to Devon at the end of March, so my Renewal - which was in with Gloucestershire Police in December under the previous fee regime - was cancelled and I had to start again.

I called the Firearms team and asked for a S.7 this morning but was told my renewal would be granted and I’d see the new Certs in a week or so.

Storage was about to cost me £160 a month, before I made the call and the new Certs dropped through the door.

Yes, I paid the new much higher fee but I think I got value for money this time - as well as a slot for a .308… anyone got a nice one to sell??

Surprised you renewal was cancelled by Gloucester, I can see their logic but as your records were transfered so would be the renewal.

I would be interested in knowing if this was lawful.

My renewal 8-week extension ends in less than 3 weeks with Dorset, not heard a thing yet.

I had to store a friend's guns for two weeks after he was instructed to lodge them somewhere. They wrote to say this was the result of putting the application in late, but this was after writing to say they acknowledged his application went in early! They came up with some cock and bull story before acknowledging it was their mistake.
So it's obviously still pot luck with D&C.

Nice set up, but I’ll give fishcake first dibs as he responded before I did. I’m looking for a guide in this area as my permissions are in Oxfordshire and Cornwall. Devon deer stalker, might that be you?

I pleaded with them to transfer the paperwork but they wouldn’t and refunded me. Worth a try, though.

My renewal is due in two weeks from D&C

I just received a letter from them extending my licenses for 8 weeks beyond my end date

Very interesting - I got a belated reply on my request for a S.7 saying the Home Office had stopped extensions so they were no longer issuing them.

My conclusion is that they are doing their best with limited resources and ambiguous rules. Roll on digitisation - look what it did for the Passport office…

I had the same reply when I emailed them for an update

However, a letter granting me an 8 week extension was already in the post

Dated several days before I sent my email

The letter extended my license together will all the rights of ammo purchase

Well that's interesting as I understood the 8 week extension is a statutory right if the delay is theirs, but my extension didn't extend to ammunition, so that's an improvement.

if the delay is theres. I was told to formally request a section 7 temporary permit rather than an extension (which you'd think is the same thing). Any way it worked and my renewal arrived a few months after.
