Cz512

HI does anyone have an opinion on the cz512 or have used one that can help me , im about to take the plunge on a WMR cz512 although there's a 10 week wait , so I don't want to go through all the wait trouble and waste my cash on a load of junk like the recent remmy 597 has been with bits of plastic falling out and even with a new trigger group it jams and jams on quick follow up shot , It wont come threaded that's another 2 weeks on top , so may try and then get it threaded not decided that part just yet . The other option is a 455 wmr varmint but even that is a 2 week wait to be threaded , but I really want a semi wmr .

I don't own one but a friend of mine does - he loves it and says it tack drives up to 100 and further - hope this helps

I have been wanting one also.
A shop in the City has one, dust covered for lack of 22WMR ammunition and they won't discount it despite the rifle having been on the rack for better than two years. I like it because it takes 452 magazines. I have CZ 611 22WMR and I love it, but the magazines are frighteningly expensive. The rifle itself is a true tack driver.~Muir

Thanks everyone , So they sound ok . I have a 452 17hmr not as pretty or refined as my weihrauch 17hmr but a good reliable rifle . Muir do they take the 452 mags if so even better as I say I have a 17hmr 452 , but I thought it was the 455 mags that fitted . Im also fearful of the polymer lower after the remmy saga , please say if I am wrong but does the bolt ride on alloy in the alloy upper and not on polymer , Sounds good so far so I think I will get one ordered and pray its on the early side of the waiting time of 8 weeks + 2wks to threaded + proofed , but I may have a play and then get it threaded later , as Edgars get them threaded here anyway , And as i live 10 mins if that from them here in Macclesfield , I think they get threaded at Cheshire gun rooms well that's what I was told by them at C.G.rooms , I wish I could handle one but no dealer round here has one in stock , so I really am relying on feed back from members here .

Hi Bongo
Was your 597 a wmr or 22lr ?I have had Remington 597 in 22 WMR for a few years now never misfire once

I've had most of the semi auto 22s over the years. I now own a CZ512 and it is the most accurate semi I've had. I has given me no problems whatsoever.

Hi Bongo, I`ve got a Remy 597 in 22wmr, very accurate and feeds ammo well, but I`ve had the trigger jamming on a fast second shot, my local gunsmith told me to keep the trigger and working parts wet with a heavy gun oil, so far no problems.

Is this trigger jamming on the 22wmr Remington 597 a common fault? Tim.

Hi remmy it was a WMR , What was happening was the bolt hold open was jumping up and coming across the front of the bolt and jamming it open , the little bit of metal at the top of the mag well . with that tiny pin and spring . that was with a new complete trigger group . loved it other than that , I think the 22lr are fine its the WMR that have problems as they did with the HMR now withdrawn .

Got a rare invite to edgars today so that I could check out a 512 much nicer than in the pictures , they look bulky but far from it + 3yr warranty so im going to chance one in WMR (????) . But a 10 wk wait then +2wk's to be threaded and proofed unless its factory done otherwise edgars will do it in house . They have a WMR 455 heavy barrel in stock but that still needs threading , But only a 2wk wait , last option is a used 452 WMR used skinny barrel which I don't like £300 and threaded and can have it tomorrow . So got until Monday morning to decide , votes are going towards the 512 wmr , Im in such a dilemma as to live dangerous and get the 512 or play boring safe and get a 455 bolt , To have a full picture i have 2x HMR's + 1 xLR B/A , 2x semi LR's , 2x223 , so a WMR will be a nice addition in the tool box , but is it a bolt or semi .

I won't own a 455.
I have a CZ 452 American with the "skinny barrel". It's the most accurate 22WMR I own. This was 5 shots off of a camera tripod at 75 yards, forend rest only.~Muir

Hi Bongo, I`ve had this happen to my 597 Remy as well, hence gunsmiths comment about keeping it oiled.

I suppose you could have tried to disable the bolt hold open device. I had thought about doing it on mine because the fault was intermittent and unpredictable. The trouble was that the rifle was just too accurate to sell on and make it some one else`s problem.

With regard to your purchase and whether bolt action or semi-auto, buy both, first get your new semi-auto, then find a second hand 22wmr bolt gun. Tim.

Yes I did think of a pop rivet to stop it moving to much , in short I did think of ways to fix it but I just thought if this is now and new what's down the road and its back at the RFD's so ive not passed it on to another shooter . Both now that's my way of thinking , pt 1 done :-)

hi muir , I have a 452 in 17hmr and must say its accurate , if as accurate as your wmr im not sure , but there's no doubt CZ have the accuracy sorted . Anyway folks fanfare toot toot , Done it gone and got a 512 in wmr , my nerves would not take anymore waiting and With No 12 week wait I got it . Its new , in stock , on sale at a lot less than what I have been quoted , but not threaded but that was the case for all of them even if I had waited . Got it from valley arms ????? before I get all the horror stories about them if there is any , the chap I dealt with was fine the larger of the 2 main guys well , mr nasty attitude just glad I got the taller chap who did step in as I closed the lid on the box and regardless of a 1hr 45min each way trip I would of left it and walked out . Anyway back to it horror stories or not they have a 3 year warranty and as ive said EDGARS are just around the corner from me and there's two CZ stockists 8/10 miles north and south in fact east of me so i'm not worried about that , With a 10rnd mag to me its got a bit of a AK47 look about it and the more I handle it the more its growing on me as at first I thought they looked to much like a shotgun also big and bulky , but holding one yesterday I realised size wise they were more refined dainty than what the pictures made it out to be , all in all im pretty pleased with it and the price it was but as always proof is in the pudding when I actually fire it tomorrow , So thanks to everyone for all your help and reassurance as without it I most likely would of gone safe and got another b/a , I hope its another useful tool in my collection , atvb gerry

Gerry,
Good for you. I'm sure that the trigger will sort out after a while but the accuracy will be there from the start. Like all 22WMR's, be prepared to try different brands and for heaven's sake, don't clean the barrel every outing. Let it shoot in. I'll be expecting a full report.~Muir

Hi there, i have the CZ512 WMR and love it. So far the only problem has been a broken firing pin that took three months of waiting for a replacement pin to be sent out, all good now. cheers boxermerc

Hi i think enough time has passed to trial the CZ512 wmr . Its a great rifle really reliable and accurate a worthy tool in my collection , a real pity the triggers are so heavy but im feeling brave enough now its not New new anymore so will give the trigger mech a polish which is the only fix i can find . I got mine with the open sights and glad i did , but if anyone is thinking of doing the same i sort of wish it was threaded for a mod as it is a bit lively as its light , also loud for some places , just something to consider as its £130ish to get threaded And move the foresight back because its flush with the end of the barrel so no barrel to thread without doing so . Had i perhaps of had more knowledge of a WMR i could of made a more informed decision about getting one already threaded or not , As its turned out im happy with it as is . So yes overall a good solid reliable rifle , Especially as its a semi WMR and im a fussy so and so .

Glad you like it, I'm waiting o pick up its older brother the brno 611 in WMR to go with my 511 in LR, just waiting on the chap who's buying my HMR's variation to come through.

Jst take it steady on the sear polishing, my mate did the same to a Brno 581, without much material removed it became full auto

Bongo, I had a 512 .22wmr a few years ago. I was happy with the accuracy but not the trigger or reliability. It would run for about 50rds then start jamming. I think this may have been due to the sound moderator, probably the reason they don't come factory threaded. I think the moderator increases the amount of crud left/ blown back into the action. Mine used to look like a bag of sand had been poured in it after 50 rounds. From memory there is a piece of metal inside the top of the receiver that pivots on a pin, powder used to get trapped in there and limit its movement, may have had something to do with the jams. As for the trigger, I put a bolt through the trigger housing pressing against the horizontal part at the rear of the trigger, this reduced most of the creep but it was a bit of a bodge. There were a few links on Rimfire central of internal work if I find it I will post it. Oh and I had scope creep issues due to the bolt slamming home on each shot but I had a heavy NV scope mounted.
