D & C Renewal update

mm, if it was a private contractor for the government it would now no longer hold the contract .
The two-year contract extension is worth £140m and will start in March 2022, when the current 10-year contract was due to end. Under the original contract the MoD had the option of extending Capita’s contract, which the company has now successfully secured.

This is despite absolutely appalling performance, but is quite the norm with big businesses and government!

Capita ? running firearms licensing ?

Ha, don't you believe it. How were the pandemic logistics before the Army moved in?
Entirely different ! when FEOs and senior police officers r put up field hospitals you totally know thats not going to end well . However to mess up grants and renewals of FAC and SGC , explosives ? well that is just a case of neglecting responsibilities tasked to them . Let's not forget that point ever!

Gentlemen,
I'm confused.

They were owned by the NHS, and managed extremely incompetently.

What does the MoD have to do with either the NHS or Devon & Cornwall police?

No, not firearms licensing, but plenty of other government contracts.

The observation was in relation to the posted comment:
“mm, if it was a private contractor for the government it would now no longer hold the contract”

The general principle being that the statement does not hold true for many other contracts so why would it for FAC licensing?

Update: Still no word from firearms, I assumed it would take them a couple of weeks to get a new medical copy sent through, so decided to email them to see if they had chased up a copy of my medical report. No reply after 2 weeks.
Rang up my practice to check if one had been requested to be told that it had not, 2 months since firearms achkowledged they had lost it and still nothing was done. Luckily my GP had scanned a copy to my medical file so this was swiftly emailed through in a couple of minutes, one to me and one direct to firearms.
12months since variation was sent in,
10 months since renewal was sent in.

Best keep waiting

Have they taken your money/cashed your cheque? If so see if the Sale of Goods Act still applies - i.e. goods not received within set period then if so write to the CC advising him of facts and telling him you intend to summons him to the Small Claims Court. I did this many years ago - 3 days later fac was hand delivered!

Cheque cashed 7th Feb 🙄

My experience so far.
Shotgun Certificate Renewal due on 6 December 2021. Received 'thank you' letter for completed application from D&C on 26 October. :)
Doctors cashed second cheque for medical report early December for £36.00, hand delivered first cheque to surgery was lost!
Apology letter from D&C on 9 May for exceeding 56 day renewal target.
Received Temporary Certificate on 23 May, after a phone call informing me they had just found my e mail notifying them I had given my guns to Son in Law. As I believed I was not legally holding guns after eight-week extension had expired. Apparently, e mail had been put in the wrong e mail folder and was discovered by accident!
On 29 July received letter informing me that they were still waiting for a medical report from my doctor.
I requested Doctor to provide new report. Charged £60.00 for the privilege.
Temp Cert expires 22 November. Not at all impressed.

Makes you wonder whether the “we are still waiting for your medical report” is just a letter they are sending out to buy them more time

Flipping heck, I'm now approaching 12 months since I put in my grant application with DDC, knowing they are prioritising renewals and alterations and you are also approaching 12 months, what hope have I got 🫤

I have to say, my recent experience with DDC has actually been very good and dare I say quite a quick and easy process. I put in for a like for like variation mid August, phoned to enquire on a rough time estimate and I was quoted 2 - 3 weeks, after 2 weeks had passed I called for an update and to my suprise they informed me it was in the post and on the way back to me! Sure enough certificate arrived back with me 19 days after posting. Lucky, maybe (probably) but after a couple of polite phone calls I was very impressed, hopefully a sign of things to come!

And yet, some people are waiting months and months for the same thing. It's unreal how inconsistent it all is

After nearly 12 months of waiting for a Dorset/D&C variation I have now enlisted the help of my MP to chase it up. So far, I've had a prompt response from him stating that he will write to the CC at Dorset.

Jolly good, well done. Let's hope it pokes a few people in the right places, I'm also approaching 12 months and it's just getting silly.
