For 150gr Hornady SSTs I use 45grs of N140 which gives an MV 2740fps in my T3
Check out the Sako website. It is the only manufacturer that gives you the powder and load they use in each cartridge. And they use Vit powders. When I'm working up a load I refer to it but start a couple of grains lower.
According to my Vihtavuori reloading guide the 150gr RN Hornady bullet can be driven at 2840fps with 46.3gr of Viht. N140.
VIHTAVUORI NOTE :- `The optimal powder loading is generally some 5% less than the absolute maximum given in this brochure. This decrease in powder quantity reduces the pressure by about 10% but the velocity by only 3-4%`.
MY NOTE :- Loads greater than the manufacturer states could seriously damage your health !
Also remember that different primers can also raise pressures to a dangerous level.
44.0gr N140 seemed just magic with several 150 -155gr bullets and in several rifles. Might not be the fastest, but then again you don't need to worry about running high pressures on a very hot day.
My 308 easily shoots 2" groups at 300m with cheap flat base Hornady sp.

With you on that, up to 43.5gr, the groups were not tight, at 44gr they just seemed to group perfect, at 44.5gr, they grouped the same, at 45gr they opened up again so I stuck with the 44gr.
