That reminds me about a 3-4 weeks ago we spotted two kids as we were leaving the town, Both very much spotted and maybe 30% the size of the doe next to them we were both silent for a minute and then just went "those were abnormally small werent they?"

There's always going to be a few late ones, and their chances of surviving the winter are slim.
I have a fallow fawn that wasn't born until sometime in August. It's tiny compared to the rest.

Indeed, seemly see it more-so in the regular bigger species rather than roe though (unusually) seeing a late red calf isn't a crazy occurrence but a roe kid definitely makes you double take what you just seen.

Seeing a few late fallow fawns here in south hampshire and the very occasional twins. Maybe climate related, later or prolonged ruts? Something is changing

THis seems like nature at work, some does come into season late, bucks are happy to help. If the young survive so do the genes if they dont, no lose

Yes although having worked with Japanese Sika I hadn't seen it before. This was a Formosan Sika calf and I thought it could be a young hind reaching the weight necessary to breed. The stags in the herd have still not started to chase hinds about so that could be another reason for the odd late calf.
