Deer Parks In Dorset

I'm being dragged kicking n screaming to the mother in laws 80th in April, we're staying in a village 8 miles from Dorchester, I'm going to be quite happy taking myself off to a deer park, any good ones locals or visitors can suggest? I saw Melbury Deer Park but nothing online suggested they still have deer?

I’m pretty certain that Melbury still have deer.
Your other alternative to get into the New Forest with a set of bins, plenty of wild deer to be readily seen.

If you're south east of Dorchester then Arne (although not a deer park) is well worth a visit for the Sika.

Arne RSPB reserve, wild Sika that are easily seen especially in yhe rut.

I know it is not on the Dorchester doorstep, nearer Ringwood but there are Red deer at Burley. They come out into a large field between The Burley Arms and the Burley Hotel, a herd of approx. 60 Reds that are worth a visit at dusk.

I might be wrong but think you are referring to the field in front of the Burley Manor Hotel that goes up to the Queens Head
