I ymthink across a lot of a trade based industries it’s like that. There’s a four week course to be an Arborist. 15 years deep I’m still learning new things all the time so I haven’t a clue what people think they can learn in a month.
Have spent many happy years in Sutherland on the Sika.
Unguided and in the forest - evening stalk and it's getting dark. Those forests can unnerve the best of men.
Then the 'whistling'.
Not ashamed to say it - it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
This year will be my 34th in the area. Never tire of stalking Sika stags, its the only species of deer that I have had charge me when wounded, on two occasions when a client had badly shot them. That gets your attention in thick forestry.

Had it once with a Red Stag in thick spruce I was on my hands and knees looking for what I thought would be a dead beast,
when he suddenly came at me head down almost at ground level shot him at point blank range about four feet never
had time nor room to lift the rifle just pushed it towards him and pulled the trigger no real conscious thought just an automatic reaction ended up with the stag lying on top of me.
