You asked for a solution, I offered one, the last sentence of your original post gives you a simpler one. You don't want to faff about on your ground? You don't have to, prep your rifle at home

3D printed or CNC machined replacement riser which is an inch and a half shorter would work

Seems to me that the simplest solution is to have a rotating swivel head on that adjuster, so you can adjust without the sling twisting.

It was not a problem for my husband….he was over 6 feet tall. He bought this rifle shortly before he died so I decided to keep it and use it as a backup and for sentimental reasons.

So, if you are over 6' tall the bolt comes out, but if you are shorter it doesn't If so, the simple solution would be to stand on a box.

I feel They are meant to be used and this one means more than it's value so should be used and if it needs changing in order to use it. So be it

But surely a spare riser trimmed to suit which can always be swapped if you want to sell
