DIY Trigger Pull Gauge

Hi All,

Polishing and tweaking my 10/22 trigger just now and looking for ideas on how to check the trigger pull.

Safety Disclaimer and in the best spirit of Heath Robinson I can come up with....... is some bent fencing wire (coat hanger is too weak, big toe has found out the hard way with a tin of beans) for the trigger, throw some shrapnel in a bag then weigh bag when trigger goes off, but still not convinced as the bag/wire combo rub on the rifle.

You could do but you could also just adjust it until it feels right for you instead of by weight/force.

Depends if you really want to know the figures I suppose.

I use string, a small polly bag and ball bearings I bought to use with my catapult. I don't think the string rubbing on the rifle is too important; plus or minus a couple of ounces? How accurate do you need to be?

A length of wire and a set of digital scales used for weighing holiday luggage worked OK for me

Trying to get close to the 3lb competition minimum pull weight.

Easy. bit of string loop over trigger. Attach other end to empty plastic bottle and fill with water until trgger released. Weigh bottle on electronic kitchen scales.

And if it’s a factory remington trigger you’ll need two Jack Russells or a really fat rat

I just use an old fishing scale! I set it at two trout or one pike

Old fashioned spring balance scales, many of you guys must have a set for weighing trophies.

Bent coat hanger, kitchen scale, and anything that you can hook the coat hanger on to. One loop end of the hanger against the trigger. The other end attached to, say, a jug partially filed with water. Set the water on the scale and note the weight. Raise the trigger group and note the reading on the scale when the sear breaks. Do it a few times for an average. For a 10/22 just use the trigger group, not the assembled rifle. Makes it easier to do. ~Muir
