Do trophies always look a lot smaller once cleaned up

I shot a big bodied buck the other evening and he had what I thought might just make a medal. But in the cold light of day he is just a good buck and a lot smaller than the Bronze medal I have on the wall. I think that this a common occurrence where things look better late at night than in the cold light of day?

They look even bigger if you only get a glimpse of it at 200 yards then never see it again. my imagination gets carried away lol
