Dog inoculation - annual boosters

I have my dogs inoculated ever year especially to get the Lepo cover. The thought of my dogs being seriously ill or dieing because they are not jabbed up to date doesn't bear thinking about.
Now I'm a funny sort as I take notice of the experts and not hear say.

Evening FB43, you have already had the best, honest, and knowledgeable advice from Buchan, which has been backed up by a number of posters on the thread. A dog is a valued friend / companion for life and they rarely give us anything but true honesty and devotion, I say this as I look at my now old HWV, who is resting at my feet in front of the fire; take good sound veterinary advice when it is given. Particularly when it is free 
We just get a little tired of the petty jibes from certain small minded individuals, who then get upset when on the rare occasion we decide to call them out.

Ours get pup and one booster then we don’t bother but worth noting that kennels require the full suite and I’ve heard insurance companies get funny about paying if there’s no evidence of keeping up with inoculations because you haven’t been following ‘best practice’.
Very few of ours are insured and none ever go to kennels so it’s not a huge concern.

Had a Border terrier develope an autoimune illness 2 weeks after her 4th annual booster .She was quite ill but recovered somwhat with meds but was never the same and had to be PTS aged 10.
Vet would not agree that the illness was caused by the booster but I did a lot of reading about it and quite likely it was .
Her twin lived for over 15 years and never had any more boosters after 4.

Never given a dog a booster in 40 yrs of owning many dogs.
Not once, complete waste of time and the only reason folk do it is because kennels etc require it to avoid any liability.

So the GWP is 5 years old now, never had a booster and the JR is 11 years old and the same. However they will both be going into commercial kennels this year who demand and quiet rightly that they have there inoculations. I’ve just booked them in and because they have not had their boosters I have to start both dogs on a full inoculation course again not just boosters. They are both working dogs coming into contact with all sorts in their working lives and must have some immunity or they would have died by now. So is this just my vets making money or is this standard practice, possibly one for @Buchan please.

Yes. I make money from boosters.
Humans don't, that's true, but human drugs use different studies to determine vaccine intervals, usually comparisons of populations. We rely on challenge studies - giving dogs a dose of illness to see if they survive. It would not be ethical to keep doing this to healthy dogs.
As I've said before, your distemper, parvo, hepatitis, are probably lifelong. Your lepto needs annual boosters as it's poor at generating immunity
