Dog sleeping under the high seat

My old lab just curls up under the high seat but am I putting myself at a disadvantage with scent etc?

Definitely not, I have been shoot with a dog a very long time, deer are never spoked by the deer as long as the dog stays still. I find the dog useful as she will pick up a lot deer coming in before I will see them.

I posted a video on here a while ago asking about the age of a roe buck, deer was a few feet from the dog.

My ole gal did the same as at 28kilo she wasn't easy to push shove move or hoist, it's only the little man at 8kilo that is hoisted

Never without her and out weekly she sees every deer I shoot . I have on occasion found some deer stand that bit longer as they seem to focus on her not me !

My tiny springer bitch Sheba would be either tied to the bottom rung and act as an alarm or tucked inside my old Dennison smock keeping me warm and wriggling like a loon if she scented a deer!
She would try and retrieve them
Never lost a deer with her

I don't think so, I've seen mine react to deer which I couldn't see, I've even watched Fallow come over to have a sniff of her, so I couldn't really see any disadvantage in having her with me.
Plus, she's there "just in case"
I used to tether her to the bottom of the high seat's ladder every time, but I don't think that's really necessary anymore. So long as she isn't cold she usually goes to sleep - she is a Lab after all.
I just like having her company anyway, so I prefer it when she's with me

Nope I always have my dogs with me when out, multiple times I’ve had deer within 40y looking at the dogs confused and it’s never had them running off into the horizon, just had 2 does last week and the first one was feeding for a good 20mins in sight of the dogs, it kept looking up and watching them then go back to feeding

The only time I have known the dog ruin a stalk for me was this year, stalking into a group of fallow on a very windy day, got within 30 yds but could not make a shot due to the amount of cover , stood there for 15 mins, went to move forward a few feet, dog stood up as had laid down by now- dog had a massive shake and the cover in front of me exploded with fallow so no shot , but under the high seat, no obvious problems.
