Double discharge

The doubling may be caused by incomplete operation of the barrel selector either by the shooter or due to clogging of the mechanism, or it may be due to worn sear engagement. The former is more likely but the latter is dangerous. Your decision to take it for inspection by a gunsmith is a good one.

It hasn’t gone off as per an accidental discharge, but both barrels went off...
I know what you mean - but I'd tend to take the view that, unless you intended to fire both barrels at once, it was an accidental discharge - in this case of the unintended barrel.

Semantics notwithstanding, I think your plan to let the gunsmith look at it is undoubtedly the correct one!

I had an old lanber growing up that did that, could be a number of things.

action full of crap and the sears not engaging properly

loosely mounting the gun with thick spongey clothes can bump fire them

other thing it did was the selector switch getting jammed in the middle and giving you a surprise on firing

I'd get it in for a service and get it seen to promptly as if it's the first it's dangerous and needs fixing ASAP.

Before I joined my old shoot 1 off the guns had a double discharge 1 day when he closed the gun.
Lucky no one was hurt.
That would scare the sh* t out of u.

It was a relatively new gun but he sold it straight away after that

I had a loan of an auto shotgun and was advised that she will spit two out, holy hell a Black Duck rose out of the swamp and I lined it up dead on and the shotty spat two out (brrt) that quickly that I reckon the first load was still in the barrel when the second erupted .....duck? DEAD!
It was as quick as an AK47.
