Does anyone know if the six months' validity is policy/documented anywhere? I put in my renewal with Cheshire, but it's been rejected because they only accept renewals within 90 days of expiry. Despite the online application seeming to indicate it can take up to 18 weeks. The actual wording is "It can take up to 18 weeks to grant a new certificate." This however is under the the "Renew a firearm and shotgun certificate" section and is the only reference to time shown.
So, expecting my GP to take several weeks as usual, I started the process already. However my GP turned the proforma around in less than an hour; yeah, I know! Which means my proforma will be about 10 days past 3 months old by the time I can renew. At which Cheshire will only accept it with a supporting letter confirming nothing's changed. Which is going to cost me, again...
Cheers.
