Drying cases after tumbling.

My recipe

Ultrasonic - from Amazon - about £25. Citric acid and washing up liquid in warm water......two cycles and then rinse in warm water then into the air fryer for 2 mins on 40C on a liner paper. Leave for another 10 mins ........or forget and **** off the next user when they find them in there......

Dry and sparkly.....😀

Why do people clean their cases so diligently ?
Does making them shiny improve accuracy ?
Is there anything wrong with a bit of wire wool ?

I had glass fibre internet cable installed last year which involved the team digging a very deep groove from the street to the corner of my house, they uncovered an unused 3 ply copper cable of single strand copper of about 1.5mm diameter that it was 2.5 metres long. I had been wondering what to do with it so after stripping the insulations off and cutting it into 75mm lengths this is what I have made up. I will use it to dry my cartridge cases after wet tumbling, stripping the insulation off and tapping the copper straight again on a flat anvil was a ball breaker though. I ran out of cable so finished off with copper brake pipe which I will never use anymore.

Made one like that years ago my pal still has it as i now use a food dehumidifier.
I used to lay kitchen roll over the pins in my case to aid drying .

I think some of you need to look at time management, if you have to reload your cleaned brass the same day then look at starting the cleaning a day or 2 earlier.
All this talk of dehumidifier's, hairdryers (probably just for Creedmore brass) or popping into the oven with the Victoria Sandwich, just clean a couple of days before and air dry.

You can have shiny new cases by doing the following.
Deprime cases.
Take plastic basket out of ultrasonic as it absorbs 30% of waves.
Put said cases in a clip top food bag to act as the barrier between the bath and cases.
Into the bath add Creme of Tartar, an oxidising agent...a teaspoon is good forv100 223 cases.
Set for 12 minutes.
Have a cuppa.
Rinse said cases until happy .
Tried and tested for 30 years and no hassles...honest.
Do not put cases directly onto metal bath or bang.....
Was shown by a gunsmith shooter who was an engineer...

I’ve used a few methods including warm air from a hair dryer or even the oven. A mesh bag works ok if you leave them long enough or next to a radiator.

I’ve recently had some 3D printed case holders made up that hold the case upside down and open at the bottom for airflow and drainage, placed on top of a radiator they dry quite quickly.

Air fryer on lowest heat for 7-8 minutes does the trick.
Just don't tell the missus. Saying that I have an air fryer basket solely for this purpose to save the grief.

I also find a squirt of 'rinse aid' in a basin of clean water helps prior to drying.

The pins burnish the cases so in theory there is a greater surface area of brass that will grip the chamber walls during combustion. But nit picking in the extreme, do I need therapy? :)

375 H&H/222 Remington, this exciting new cartilage is created by putting these cases in the same tumbler. Anyone got loading data, asking for a friend

This has been discussed a lot over the years and I’ve just done a search for Ultrasonic by fizzbangwhallop which brings up quite a lot of the threads I, and many others including the late great Alantoo, have contributed to. Theres a lot of good info in those threads…. and worth a read. 👍

I’m still using the 6litre with the degaussing feature, rainwater out of the butt, 2 pickled onion jars, citric acid, fairy and rinshine… and the Lakeland food dehydrator. The U/S was also very useful when getting the bike back on the road although I wished I’d bought a 7 litre version at times.

Now we’re into ‘recipes’ … this comes up every year so I’ve just done a search on it and found my post on last year’s thread… which includes a link to a previous thread including contributions from the late Alantoo on the subject.

I still use my decent sized tank(, big enough for bike bits etc) with its heater and degaussing function, rainwater, two pickled onion jars, level teaspoon of citric, drop of washing up liquid and a drop of rinshine. Rinsed off then rinsed again in a solution of bicarbonate of soda in hot water, rinsed in cold, blown through with an airline and into the Lakeland. Sounds longwinded but hey, works for me. 😎

No way would my paterdale have ever help drying cases, good dog you have there

oven set at 80oC fan in a baking tray for 15 minutes dry as a bone and do not loose their luster .

I place the wet cases in a reloading tray as follows and put the tray into the airing cupboard. A hole has been drilled in each cavity to let the air circulate.
