Hi I am thinking of attending the BDS DSC 1 Courese to be held N Ireland in April.

Can any one advise as to either attending all three days or attempting assessment only. My problem is getting time of work.

Assessment only route would mean that i would not have to take any holiday time off.

I am worried that assessment only will not cover all points in suffient detail. Or I may not have a good enough understanding

All advise welcome

Hi, Assessment Only won't cover any of the points, it really is just the five Assessments. It is a good option for some people but you will need to do the pre-assessment learning yourself unless you are very confident that you don't need to.

Hi,

Is there any particular training aids you recommend that’ll get you up to standard?

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Glyn will subscription to the Ultimate Deer Data facility on the BDS training page give me enough information to undertake assessment only.

I presume that this is the information pack that would be appropriate at this time.

I can't comment of individual products as that would be inappropriate without trade membership but people generally find a combination of a hard copy manual and some form of eLearning works well. having said that, different people respond well to different styles of learning. One bit of advice I would give is to not underestimate the assessments; there is a bit of a trend on the internet for people who have passed to make out that it was easy. It may be for some people but I would still recommend a good deal of revision is undertaken. Also, practice the shooting test, especially the 70m sitting or kneeling phase.

Quite a few of the dsc1 courses are being run over 2 days. If you feel you possess all the knowledge to pass the course on assessment only, then go for it. If you have no idea what it's about, do the course.

I did my DSC1 in Tyrone last April, great course and a great experience. The course was divided into modules first one delivered on Friday evening last one Sunday am. You may already have a module complete , do you have a game handling cert? ( having one already saved me from having to attend Sunday) Try to get a timetable for the course and see what you can squeeze in, you have to do the range test and safety walk anyway. If you study your manual there should be no problem with the assessment particularly if you already have a bit of experience.
Stay safe.
