I have taken the plunge and booked a Dsc1 in November. I currently use lead (BTSP 100gn) home loads can I use these or will I have to use lead free factory please for the assessment. Obviously shooting deer with these rounds is another discussion..
Andrew.

No need for it to be lead free, but for insurance reasons I believe you're supposed to use factory rounds for the test.

I suggest that you stay in touch with your training provider and check nearer the time. November is a long way off and the current HSE proposals on lead ammo may be having some impact by then. Re hand loads, the DMQ standard simply says that the ammo must be deer legal in the country in which you take the assessment, it is up to the individual training provider and range whether they allow hand loads.

If you have to use factory loads you might be better using the trainers rifle. When I did my DSC1 my rifle was away at the menders so I used the ‘estate rifle’. It cost me £10 for the ammo.

Hi there - I was able to use lead on my DSC in Nov 2024 but maybe check with your provider just in case?
