Think you’ve all missed the point. The anal contraction occurs with the stalker!, ….when they then consider remembering how to correctly inspect and gralloch the carcass, extract it, perhaps skin it….and then think , now what do I do with it?
Howdy folks,
Revisiting and having a read through the DSC1 manual as a refresher and saw this line under the Initial External Inspection section:
"Having first ascertained a deer is dead by Checking for eye blink reaction or anal contraction...."
Haven't heard of this second check before and a quick Google/search on this forum didn't return anything obvious and I was just curious about when and if this method would be useful (if at all) & what your actually checking for?
Just curiosity really as surely the eye blink test is the best/most reliable approach and is considered common practice....
Good old DSC1, allegedly promoting "best practice" and then requiring candidates to know about something which they are almost certainly never going to use
Some absolutely cracking responses on this thread though, I've had to mop coffee off my keyboard a couple of times so far
I wouldnt recommend sticking your finger up a near dead red stag, Sika Stag or Fallow Buck. The reaction you get might be an antler straight in your face.
Not something I would encourage personally.
Sometimes I think these advisories are made up by people with limited experience in deer stalking.
