DSC1 Passed at Donington Deer

I did say last year I was going to do it this year, perhaps I should start looking into it. Welldone on getting your finger out though

you should give them a ring at donington deer they run courses every couple of months without fail, they always get booked up quick as well, they be quite handy for you as they only at islay walton, good luck

dont suppose anyone got the level 2 questions or a manual they have finished with? or is there a website where you can download them? replies most welcome:tiphat:

level 2 is just putting all you now know into practice.
You should'nt need to prepare if you have just passed lv1.
If you are ready for 2 you will know the answers from lvl 1 and you will have gralloched at least a few deer already.

cant beat being prepared is my motto, shame we dont have any roe round the peak district, have to wait now till august, thanks for the reply

really well, better then 20/20 vision in both eyes now.
well if you can i.d the nodes and talk trough identifiable diseases and perhaps do a simulated follow up then go for it.
look confident with the knife and keep a cool.
I look for knowledge, confidence and a method which is practiced.
I can tell somethings wrong if the knife is not held with confidence and the carcass is turned around a dozen times or you go around it in circles it suggests lack of practice.
So I will ask far more questions.

my brother just has his done but has glasses for reading work, is this normal if you have both eyes done? do you have them for short work or does it come gradual over a few years or dont you need them at all

This is an untrue statement as i know of Gamekeepers who have level 1 and never shot a deer. If you have the technical ability to pass the exams and can shoot a centrefire rifle accurately you can pass the lev 1 without ever entering a Forrest, Field or Open Hill. There is no requirement for hands on experience for level 1. Any good level 1 manual such as David Stretton's plus good marksmanship and level 1 is achiveable without ever shooting a Deer.

Kind regards

I had both mine done for distance but can see well for reading though that might fail as i get older.
Jimbo I would say you are correct. BUT no one having not shot a deer should go for a level 2 as it is hands on. So preparing for 2 is just gaining experience not revision.
As a vocational qualification should be only registered for once the experience is gained.
We are only witnesses and help is not allowed on the day.
I take many out as you know and they gain the relevent experience over many many stalks, then when they think they are ready we do a possible dsc2 stalk, if its not up to scratch its not written up and put down to experience.

thanks for all your help jim, found all the questions on dmq website:tiphat:

No problem Dean it's a pleasure to give you answers to your questions but as you know when you are being assessed for Lev 2 The AW can not assist or give you any prompts for you to answer the questions correctly it is down to you on the day. The above said your eagerness to learn and your enthusiastic approach I am sure you will not have a problem.

Kind regards Jim

thanks jim, if you are going to donington deer one day soon for supplies let me know and i will come down, need butchering saw and snare bar, probe wipes, thanks Dean:tiphat:
