DSC1 scholarship in the North West of England

The BDS North West England Branch annually award a scholarship for someone to complete their DSC1 via online as per DSC1 Online Training Course with Face-to-Face Assessment Day

The award is the Bob Jarratt Memorial scholarship. The late Bob Jarratt was a former Branch Chairman of the North West British Deer Society and a retired Head Teacher. He did much good work in encouraging young people interested in deer and deer management. In 2021 he was awarded the Jim Taylor Page Society Trophy in recognition of his work within the North West Branch in developing knowledge and awareness of deer in young people.

Criteria
The successful candidate will be judged on the following criteria:
Age – youth will be a deciding factor and the candidate should be under 25 years of age ideally
Q – what age are you?
Location - preference will be given to those within the Branch region
Q – where are you based/live/work/study?
Financial situation – preference will be given to those with a lower income
Q –How are you funding your educational courses at present?
Students - preference will be given to those in full or part time education
Q – are you in full or part time education?

While I don’t make the criteria for the scholarship and I wouldn’t want to take it away from a younger person. Is there also paid training available in the north west of England?
 
Yes, but also I’m interested I doing the dsc1 but every test I have found on line seems to be tested elsewhere in country.

The BDS Training Dept generally run a DSC1 in our branch area every year please email training@bds.org.uk this year it was an online course with in person assessment
I know an independent trainer is also planing on running one, assessment only or two days in person depending on demand. Please DM me if interested

We ( www.gladedeermanagement.co.uk ) run face to face courses for DSC1 and provide either paper or usb stick pre course study guides. Our next course dates are Thur 30th Oct - Sun 1st Nov, this course will be at Askham Bryan, York and Harrogate (range/ safety assessment) so please feel free to have a look at the site, you can book through there if this fits in for you.
