Dual purpose target and deer stalking scopes

+1 go for the NXS great scope for the money!! or even look at a PMII if money is no object. The only down fall with the PMII is the clicks seam to be very close together compared to the NXS which are much more positive clicks!! :thumb:

Spot on in my opinion. The PMII is obviously a quality piece of tackle but I couldn't agree more re the clicks comment.

Ive just bought a vortex (Razor HD) 5-20x50 for pretty much the same reasons as you've stated (bit of range work, bit of stalking) and have to say I'm mightily impressed. very clear, good at low light, target turrets, zero stop etc etc and a great guarantee. My .243 stalking rifle has an 8x56 zeiss permanently attached and I love that, fantastic piece of glass, strong and utterly reliable, but its worth taking a look at the vortex for what you are thinking of IMO. I think the Viper PST falls nicely into your price bracket, I would have got one myself but got lucky with the razorHD
good luck
cheers
Andy

Another good compromise could be the zeiss conquest 6.5-20x50
I'm using one since a while on my main stalking rifle. Which I also use
for the occasional target shoot.
Compared to other 20 mag scopes the conquest is very light and I think has better
glas than NF or Leupold. Very useable at last light.

I have two of this model and dual hunting / target rifles, and they also track very well and predictably.
Similarly, the NF NXS tracks well, but with the 5.5-22 I found the FOV narrow and it was very big and heavy.
I recently had a Minox ZA5 5-20X50, but thought it was junk. Poor build quality, and the sight picture was tiny. I sent it back to the States for refund without bothering to mount it. I was surprised as I have found Minox binoculars to be very good.
