Dyneema rope

Nearly all off road winch guys I know use deneema rope. I don’t know about mud but mines got pretty muddy and still works a treat. So much nicer than wire.

I would not say dyneema is a dynamic rope , it creeps under load very very slowly but its not dynamic . And it has never been used in clinbing due to its low melting point and inability to stretch . You cannot even use it as a static rope due to its low melting point .

Yeah mixed it up, had to look back 🙈

You mentioned a winch for extraction, if it is a capstan i wouldn't bother with dyneema. It struggles to grip to start with then it gets hot and melts to the drum, neither are very desirable.

Here's the cheapest source of quality polyester braid I could find (Yachtmaster cruising braid). I bought the 10mm rope as that's what my capstan winch requires.

I’m refurbishing my 13,000lb truck winch now as my Covid project, it’s 8 yrs old and has had 12mm Dyneema from new. Why am I doing this, you ask.

Because I’ve worked the thing to hell and back all over Aus and NZ. Massive recoveries in all sorts of conditions from Tassie mud to NT rocks and dust. It’s demolished sheds, hoisted countless deer, pulled apart old machinery, removed infinite stumps, barberry hedges and fence posts…. And dragged a good few dead cattle beasts up long hills.

That rope has had every kind of abuse imaginable and it’s never let me down. Filthy dirty, abraided, stored wet, not tensioned properly on the drum, friction, dust, the rest. My point is, there’s a lot of nonsense typed about Dyneema that doesn’t atack up with the experiences of those that use it all the time doing all sorts of jobs. It will break eventually, but man you have to really hurt it to get it to do that. And yes, I’ve just replaced it as a precaution (it will be used as an extension for certain kinds of pulls).

Just saying. Steel cable sucks. Dragging on short lengths = rope.

I use 8mm dyneema for extracting reds from some very steep ground. Got 200m on a hose reel. Don’t know where it was bought I got supplied with it. Can pull three reds at a time no problem 0099BFD0-6070-4F36-9D69-A5ECE55CD38C.webp

Google 10mm static climbing rope or similar. I have bought rope from rockrun.com at good prices but it sounds like you need a properly sheathed rope that is treated for water and dirt ingress, which is also available.
