e10

The advice I received for my old fashioned Honda genny & pressure washer is to turn fuel off & let the engine run till out. It rots seals too. Thanks for the advice here on this Aspen squizz.

Just running a Honda (or anything else) until it stops does not fully drain the carburettor. If there is some E10 (or E5) left in the float bowl it will sit there attracting moisture, the ethanol attacking the aluminium parts, diaphragms, seals, hoses etc. and the rest turning into varnish to further mess things up. Hence my policy to flush through with Aspen. Unless the equipment is going to be stored for a long time I don't bother to then drain that from the bowl, or run the diaphragm carbs dry. I suspect, if anything, it keeps the "rubber" parts in good condition.

I do likewise with my outboard motors. Which, like my generator also have diaphragms in their fuel pumps (not integral with the carb., unlike the chainsaws etc)

Dealing with a clogged up carburettor/rotted diaphragm etc. is very tedious, time consuming and expensive. Sometimes a new carburettor is the only answer.

Before Aspen came out I used to use "fuel stabiliser" in the hopes that it worked. Maybe it did, I dunno.

Want to know if your older car, bike etc. is compatible with E10 ? Try looking here Check if your vehicle can run on E10 petrol

Now, where does this (bio) ethanol mostly come from that now makes up 10% of our pump petrol ? I suspect very little from the UK.

I've never used aspen as use too much 2 stroke to afford it.
Good quality 2 stroke should help, i have been told the more expensive stihl oil has a fuel stabiliser in it anyway

But i have been told u don't want to be mixing/switching back and forward from aspen/moto mix to normal 2 stroke,, i have been told they can react with each other and rot/perish ur pipes.
So either stick to 1 or the other.

For hobby use i do think it makes a lot of sense, sometimes i think about running my hedge cutter and blower on it as they are only used seasonally and stored for long periods

I use mx5 racing oil same as in my bike.the last mix before laying up has fuel stabiliser in it.
never mix different types of 2 t oils.
seems to work but if you have carb problems don't strip just get a new one about £12 off the internet.

I’m using this in the quad, chainsaws, etc at present. Too early to tell but no obvious issues currently.

Fuel stabiliser might stop E10 turning to jelly and gumming up your carburetter or rotting seals, but it'll still be hygroscopic and if left sitting in your tank, induction system or fuel cans, it will attract atmospheric moisture like a magnet.

More green carp that isn't quite saving the planet .
Pity no 1 started a class action to compensate for the increased maintenance and running costs .
Imposition of new ideas doesn't make it work ,anybody actually trial this muck before forcing it on Joe public or is it just the usual.
The government is always right just do as your told ?

Really useful thread, I’ve been using Aspen for a while now and having no problems whatsoever apart from the cost I just decided to change back to E fuel, having read this, the one generator I filled up last Saturday has been run to empty and now refilled with Aspen and run for a hour, best to take the bitter pill cost of aspen than mess up or have dodgy gear for cheapness
nice one

It'll make things worse. the more agricultural land in the UK we waste on bio-fuel and solar farms, the more food we will have to import. Food miles will go through the roof. It's all idiocy and box-ticking.

Yep Zack ,Boris,s dad and his wife sure didn't think things through pushing this garbage instead of leaving it to 2040 as agreed.
We haven't got the infrastructure or technology yet all this rush rush towards green heaven isn't clever.

the major use of petrol is cars if your doing high millage it wont be an issue. we already import most of our food cant see why this would make much difference

my favourite subject! i wash my petrol, (google it) no probs since, but if you are a pro. and use it all up regular it won't matter!

doesnt that remove alot of the power in the fuel? id heard of ot but was warned the octane drop would be significant and adding a boost was unwise as you didnt know from what you were boosting

Just pay the extra and buy super unleaded. I have too many petrol powered work tools/machines to be knobbing about emptying tanks, also E10 less efficient so a complete false economy, another quality idea by the powers that be to save our planet 🙄

seems to work ok,i only mix 2 stroke when required and i still drain the tanks between use,but as an experiment if you measure the water you add its interesting what crap you remove.

While i have went on to the dearer fuel most manufacters reckon e10 shouldn't make any difference to their power tools.

They reckon in america petrol has been watered down with crap for years and hard to even get e10 petrol over there but power tools seem to work fine.

Prob more an issue of storing it too long ( which is now a bigger issue) and leaving it in the fuel tanks, pipes and carbs for long periods esp if mixed with cheap 2 stroke oil both have always been an issue anyway
