Earning your crust

Worked in factorys most of my life done allsorts from welding to weaving ,semi finished and worked on fishery for ten years, then i stopped because of back and knee, but started again last few years doing marble terrazzo and granite flooring and industrial cleaning ,getting more and more fooked every day but it beats sitting in and falling to bits.
Unfortunately the cost of being a physically hard worker is it does nakker you up .I'm exactly the same but extremely proud of being a crafter.like you say you stop you fall too pieces

I see what you mean jimbo. Get it at work all the time.no experience. Get the certificate. Think they are all of a sudden fecking experts.drives you mad.experience is everything fella
Is this thread a SD record by the way .I seem too have hit a passion spot.all I did is ask what you lot did for a living

Wader repairer and waterproofing specialist, busier then ever and as busy as i want to be, dont advertise but still manage to stalk or fish 2 - 3 days a week! Very happy being a pensioner with a wee part time interest.

Nice! My crowning glory was when I got to marshall the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at an air show at Manston. My God, but that will stay with me forever. The Lanc' especially. Remembering the sound of those four Merlins, and the way she loomed up over me still gives me goosebumps almost thirty years later

Oh yes! Does anyone remember the Lancaster Fly past at a game fair a few years ago, Blenheim I believe. Tear in the eye, goosebumps, hair stood up on end a the hint of a boner! Awesome.

Not wishing to digress from the OP, I have seen the BoB memorial flight quite a few times on way to or from Airshows - think of the 'Few' everytime and the 50,000 who died in the Lancs.
Fishing from Axemouth 2 summers ago and was treated to a Red Arrows display - exciting from offshore but not as stomach churning as the BoB flight.

Why that is because so many by-pass being practical and go directly into an office.....

They don't have to do a site induction as the side gate is on a direct path to the office....lol

Practical people are in the minority far out weighed by the non-practical....

my father in law was a tail gunner in a Lancaster, the following quote makes you appreciate the quality of the crewmen.

"It had a crew of seven from the pilot to the gunners. Everyone had to play their part to stay alive. The Lancaster was one of the most dangerous places to be in the entire war – the life expectancy of a new recruit was just two weeks"

he's still with us, some of those he flew with were not so fortunate.

After lots of short term jobs and experiences (including working in a chippy and at Butlins!), found myself in Nursing for thirty odd years, now retired and have a fine collection of injuries and ailments that I've worked damn hard for..... one functioning eye and awaiting open heart surgery in the frighteningly near future - hopefully after this I will be able to return to my usual galivanting about the hills tormenting fish and deer and get back to riding my Harley. Still laughingly trying to decide what I want to do when I grow up!:)
