I took 2 very well known stalkers ( won't mention any names) to Romania after Boar on feeding points, 1 decided to smoke a large Cuban cigar just before we went out ,I did mention maybe not the best idea !, 1 shot a 200kg boar the other didn't see anything all night ... can you guess which

Deer do seem to have their favourite tobacco scents.
If I smoke a rollup in my highseat it really needs to be Drum. That seems to bring them in. Cutters Choice makes no difference, and if it's Golden Virginia I won't see a deer all day.

Hi all- I have searched the forums but cannot seem to find any discussion of whether in everyone's experience human urine attracts or spooks deer (ie where is the best place to take a pee if you have to go whilst stalking!) - what are people's views on this?

Look up "Meateater - Buckman Juice", it seems some deer quite like it

My first head keeper gave us a tin of Renardine and urine. Each beat man used to have to with the aid of a bunch of feathers tied to a stick trickle it round our release pens roughly 5 yards out from the wire. We did not have electric fences round our pens but a fox was a great rarity, I killed 2 in 3 years.

My father swore by it

that might explain why i've never seen any deer in wetherspoons toilet ?

I recall making our way back to camp on one trip, when we stumbled across another of our party, who had been out in a 'Blind' over Hyenas.

He had shot one, and they had just finished taking some photographs. It was the first (and only) time, that I got up close to one.

They are without doubt the most evil looking thing on God's green earth.

I could not get the image of the 1981 film (American Werewolf in London) out of my head...




However, not everything in that film was so ugly...

Doesn’t really matter what you smell like, whether you wear old spice aftershave or smoke cigars. If you are down wind they can’t smell you, if upwind they will.

How deer react to your smell again depends on how much pressure they are under from stalkers.
