Eka G3 swingblade cleaning

Evening. My Eka G3 needs a ‘proper’ clean especially around the swivel. I know the G4 is designed to be dismantled (whereas the G3 is not) however I have the correct screw thread and am very tempted to give it a go. Before I totally destroy my knife I wondered if anyone else has tried taking one apart and if this is a good idea…

Just get right into it with an old toothbrush. It can take 2/3 mins to do it properly, but it’s not difficult.

No it’s not, I sell most of my meat to the public, cleanliness is important. And cleaning the EKA under the swivel bit is bitch.
Agree regarding hygiene but there are so many other knives on the market to choose from if cleaning a swing blade worries you to this extent. Simply purchase an alternative or a fixed blade in both.

Beauty of a mora... chuck it and it's sheath in the dishwasher after 😆 I have much more expensive knives, but that wee mora takes some abuse, ragged through sternums etc 🙃 and comes back sharp every time 😅

Anyone actually undone the screws on the knife though (if they are actually screws)

Yes

It's easy to strip and clean if you feel the need.

But honestly you could do it after every gralloch because the crud finds it's way in so easily.

What I now do is soak it in cold water and then hose it out, this works just fine and as mentioned above an old toothbrush can remove stubborn grime.

The swingblade are a great knife but definitely not the easiest to keep clean.

For the record I still use the original EKA swingblade I bought of this site back in 2009 it's done so much work it's due retirement lol, it's still going strong I like the blade profile better on this older workhorse, done two lambs for a local farmer with it this morning..

Yes there are better knifes out there I have to many right now, but love them or hate them the old swingblade gets the job done.

Dishwasher, toothbrush and then if necessary you get those tiny little bottle brush type things used for cleaning reusable straws. We have one that came with the kids “air-ups” - which is another story, a horrendously expensive water bottle that they can keep selling you “flavours” for.

Have you ever heard of a case where a stalking knife was responsible for contaminating a carcass and causing harm to the consumer?
I know that one case of food poisoning was traced back to a butcher’s knife in the larder, but I’ve never heard of a case where the stalkers knife was even suspected of causing an issue.

Just put in a bowl with hot water and fairy liquid type detergent and give it a sloosh and clean. Stalkers tend to get a little confused about 'sterilisation'........even if you did 'sterilise' it in some contraption, it would be 'unsterile' the second you remove it.
By all means 'clean' it well but you will NEVER have a sterile knife in the field.

Late answer but still mae be usefull..whay don't use peroxide on swing? it will destroy any bacteria without making harm to tje knife
