What EkA knife are you thinking of. The EkA swing blade seems to be very popular with stalkers. I have a EKA Nordic A10, It the knife i wear around my ground for general use but not hunting. There are several blade lengths in the Nordic series. The A10 is touted as a hunting knife but to me its more like a Bushcraft knife. The blade is for my taste to thick and deep.

I've got an orange Swede 10 and it's a cracking all purpose knife. Well worth the £34 I paid for it and will be gutted if I lose it (excuse the pun)

Have to be honest I like my Eka swede 10, on my second one as I donated the first one to a keeper as he was going to use it more often than I would! Good in orange as easier to find when you inevitably drop it in heather/moss/peat/rocks:-D, bought them from Casstrom, but I suspect there'll be plenty of other suppliers.

I own an EKA swing blade and its excellent for everything apart for anal tunnelling for which I find it too short and too fat

BUT the Outdoor Edge version of the knife has a better front end curve which is ideal for skinning so, of the two get the outdoor edge. The case is also better quality and I may be imagining it but I feel it keeps its edge better

I use a boneing knife for anal tunnleing I used to have a cheep one but I splashed out on a realy nice Dalstrong one because I am a kit tart

DALSTRONG Boning Knife - Shogun Series - VG10 - 6 Home

Whilst the Dalstrong is very sexy and viciously sharp, If i could only have the one knife for a gralloch the Outdoor Edge Swing Blade would be it.

springfields, carbon mora about 10/12 quid will do anything you need.;)

Sort of

Its a great bit of kit for the money don't get me wrong but it has multiple issues

For a start its too pointy for easy skinning and it needs a bit of skill to open up the belly without accidentally puncturing something.

Again I found it annoyingly short for tunnelling anything much bigger than a roe or a yearling

The swing blade gutting tool is idiot proof, and i like idiot proof for obvious reasons :D

But it keeps a great edge. Id give you my one if I could find it, I used it a few times then slung it in a draw

I was looking at the swing blade ,it looks just what I require with both blades, will look at all options suggested tonight ,many thanks

I received a swing blade as a gift. To being with i thought it will not be my first choice, but I quickly changed my mind. Highly recommended, will do all you need in the field, plus great at skinning.

What the hell is anal tunnelling?

Cleaning out the back passage & bladder during grallloching I suspect.

I would agree with some previous posters that the EKA Swingblade is just a little too wide for “anal tunnelling” on roe but the blade keeps its edge and is excellent for skinning. I am testament that the gutting blade is idiot proof. All in all a good reasonably priced knife.

Mora knives are excellent value for money (cheap) and will do anything you want in the field.

Have the swing blade and is indeed good but difficult to get completely clean around the swivel. Next time I will get separate fixed blade and a morra tripe knife.

I have been using an EKA swingblade since 2009 bought it of Wayne Davis off this forum its done a lot of work since then and has been my best go to knife for sure, it holds an edge very well and is very easy to sharpen as to the anal tract its easy to remove with the swingblade but the bladder maybe not just as easy and I do prefer a longer blade for its removal which I do when I get the beast to the larder I would agree also with the mora knifes they work just as well and are cheap as you can get but I still love my swingblade just hope I don't lose it which would be all to easy its an orange handle which helps a little but carries no sure guarantee of not losing it in the long stuff.....:D

I bought a swing blade and couldn't figure out how I was going to clean the joint effectively...it would be really sensible if they worked up a tool-less removable pivot pin so you could take it apart to go in the dishwasher.

I ended up reproducing the swing blade functions in two fixed blade knives. An Outdoor Edge Zip Blade and a Mora. I normally take two Moras with me.

Excellent all round knife for stalking, agreed the main blade is a tad too deep for the back end on Muntie and Roe you’ll need a smaller blade for that

cleaning wise, I used to jet wash my one a sharp up and then sanitise when clean, they are a very robust and stay sharp knife

They do the fish blade one to suit small deer a treat, nothing wrong in having a knife or two for back up :D

Always thought they should bring out a swingblade with a knife one end and a saw blade the other, iirc an American firm has made one, possibly more useful than two blades, most can manage to gralloch with a conventional blade, but the mature does' aitch bones aren't generally advisable with a conventional knife blade.
