English Partridge

I know this is a deer stalking forum.

but im sure as one is out Stalking we take note and notice plenty other wild encounters.

i was just curious to hear if anyone has seen many English partridge clutches out and about , as in my place of work (very busy and active quarry) ive seen more this year than ever before. So far seen 4 pairs 3 of which with broods following. one pair with 15. one with 10 and another with 8 all at diffrent stages. the 15 were tiny, so assume day olds.
Im well aware these wont be end numbers. but i find it great to see they are having some kind of Success to even get there eggs hatched.

Looks to be a poor year here- NW Norfolk. Spring counts were down and so far the only nest I’ve seen is one that has been predated
Still, Ascot week and the weather is set fair, so I’m hoping my pessimism is poorly judged.

im not sure if ghe fact our resident fox family are nowhere to be seen this year.
they may have moved on to the landfill for a more readily available meal.
this year seems good for most young we have here.
yesterday i seen (in the same field as one grey clutch)
9 roe deer. 4 of those 9 had twins bouncing about behind them!!
we also have a swarm of Sand martins within one of our stockpiles who seem to be very successful this year aswell as 2 pairs of peregrines one pair have 3 fledgling and the other have 4.
id love to see as many English partridge survive, but i know mortality rates are high.. but i gues in this day and age any are good numbers to have!

definitely seems that way here. not that im an avid twitcher, i just tend to notice in and around work.

Haven't seen or heard any here on the Isle of Wight for a great many years

In Derbyshire - i think "everything" must be in for the best years in my memory anyway - with numerous species on second and third clutches
I was redoing some duck tubes Monday and found a couple at home
The cuckoos are back calling - woodcock back roding too
Sat for half hour this morning watching families of goldies picking seeds of the flower heads in the meadow - food for the soul

I saw a pair of redlegs where I go clay pigeon shooting plus the usual pheasant and the odd hare. But greys? None see, no.

all ive seen on our site is greys. seen the odd lone redleg. seen reds last year with chicks, but none this year.

English are around in good numbers on the farm. I wouldn't suggest there are more than last year but there has been more wild bird mix drilled last year than ever before so they may be more hidden.
